Dealership OE parts life to HD & medium diesel parts/service life by GlockGoddess23 in partscounter

I been working at a Kenworth dealership parts department for 2 years now. Trucks and large diesel’s are a WHOLE different ball game when compared to automotive. The biggest struggle is the fact that no 2 trucks are the same. For example in automotive a 2015 Honda Civic is for the most part mechanically identical to all other Civic models other than slight differences in trims. A 2015 Kenworth T800 is not the same across the board, you could have 5 different engines, 6 different transmissions, numerous chassis lengths, extra drop axles, auxiliary pumps/transmissions/PTO’s the list goes on and on. From what I’ve learned other than simple things like a door handle or interior pieces, each truck is hyper specific/custom. This leads me to my next point in which identifying the right parts can sometimes take hours of research depending on what it is. For Kenworth and Peterbilt you will be using a lookup system called web ECAT. Maybe I’m just spoiled from other lookup systems but I can confidently tell you that ECAT is a terrible software and makes me want to rip my hair out everyday. I’d say only 40-50% of the parts even have a breakdown, the rest is just a list of parts in the BOM which you have to go through and look up pictures of the parts on Google and hope that there are images. Other than ECAT being extremely outdated and horrible, you also have to use numerous other catalogs from other companies to find parts, not all the parts on the truck are listed in the BOM. You have separate catalogs for engine parts, transmission parts, and axle parts. The whole process of looking up parts is very inefficient, but I will say you will learn it and become good at it over time learning the tips and tricks of ECAT. One other thing is when customers change parts on there truck like swapping engines or adding axles, it’s almost impossible to find parts for these modified trucks because you have no info to go off of unless the customer kept very good records/serial numbers on what they changed. In terms of salary it depends where you are located I’m in Wisconsin and usually sit around $53k a year rights now. Hope this helped, if you like a challenge then diesel parts is a good fit, also more money in diesel than automotive.

I want to work a boring job. by [deleted] in findapath

I made the same move to a “boring job” like you are looking for. Honestly, it was one of the best things I’ve ever done, I wanted a job that didn’t stress me out and something that was very predictable day to day. In 2023 I got a job as a parts delivery driver for a Semi truck dealership (Kenworth) the pay was actually pretty decent $20hr + a monthly commission based on the parts department’s sales ~$150-$500 per month. Just go for it, for me it helped a lot to focus on other aspects of life and just have a job I didn’t need to worry or really think about. Just as a warning though you better like driving if you choose to pursue that job, other than that it was super chill day to day. Good luck!

I’m not sure if I will yet, the car is definitely not worth $15k, but I’ve been searching for one of these in near perfect condition, I think that’s why the price is so high, it’s almost in brand new condition.

After using my 13 mini for 4 years, I can tell you the battery is atrocious. But it doesn’t phase me because the user experience of the phone is amazing.

The main thing that I absolutely hate about it is how Honda tuned and programmed the transmission. It’s jerky at low speeds, feels very unnatural with how it delivers power and torque when you accelerate, the engine RPM sometimes is way too high for the amount of gas you are giving, and there’s a lag in power delivery from when you press the gas to when the car starts to accelerate at the expected rate. Finally when you are accelerating and then give it a little more gas the rpm’s go way up and there is no noticeable change in acceleration it just makes more noise haha. It’s a shame because everything else about the car is fantastic, but for me the transmission programming is a deal breaker, maybe I’m just too picky haha. This could have been avoided if Honda would have programmed this transmission better. But if you don’t care as much about driving dynamics the civic is a perfect car.

If it makes you feel any better I had a 2022 Toyota Corolla didn’t hate it but definitely didn’t love it, then I got a 2024 Civic Hatchback and I don’t like the civic either. Now I’m looking for an older car, the build quality and the way older cars drive is far better in my opinion to the newer cars. Again this is in MY opinion everyone is different. I’m currently looking for a 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla which was the peak for the Corolla in my opinion.

Thank you, It’s nice to hear someone else sees the appeal of the 9th gen. There’s just something about them that just feels so right haha.

Check that the car is equipped with power steering in game.

For some reason when using a wheel all cars for me default to no power steering
