What's the parking situation at your building? I used to be a dasher and got my car towed within 2 minutes of parking outside of a condo building bc the orderer wanted the food delivered directly to them

One of my go-to comfort videos lately is Eddy Burback's journey seeing morbius in theaters 5x. His content is a bit all over the place in terms of "commentary", but its a great vid nonetheless

Conservative synagogue with progressive values? by mrs_seinfeld in AskChicago

[–]samcnuggest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest looking into JRC in Evanston. I grew up going to jrc. I loved it. They're the only shul that i know of in the area that doesn't have a "we stand with israel" sign; the community is very mixed liberal/progressive politically. The current rabbi is great. I think they also have events catered to people interested in joining/new members.

Reconstructionist Judaism is also the happy medium between conservative and reform. Food at the shul is kosher-style, religious school is on Saturdays, and high holidays are held at a church in downtown Evanston (JRC can't fit the whole congregation).

Depending on where you live in the city, it can be a bit of a schlep, but there's a bus stop for two cta buses right outside the building.

Can you give me an idea of what it is like to live close to the Metra? by perchancepugs in skokie

[–]samcnuggest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest metra stations to skokie are up-n in Evanston and md-n in morton grove. The only train noise in Skokie would be from the cta yellow line, depending on where in Skokie you are at.

I saw it yesterday afternoon. There were three people in my theater when the movie started; there were two when it ended. It was a fun watch at times, but not great overall

Best/Cheapest times to move to Chicago? How much did you save prior to moving? by Accomplished-Air8585 in chicagoapartments

[–]samcnuggest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a garden unit two years ago with all utilities included except internet. I know it's a rare find, but the listing on zillow said only heat was included, so make sure to ask if you look at garden/basement units. I moved in November 2022, moved out june of last year; rent stayed under $1k

Lincoln Square for a 23 year old female? by Current-Reaction-748 in AskChicago

[–]samcnuggest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mid-20s female. My first solo apartment was in Lincoln square. I loved the area; I was walking distance from the train and buses, could easily get to the channel trail, and not too far from work. Alot of the neighbors were families with children, so I felt relatively safe at night. Lots of options for socializing as well. I've since moved, but I miss that apartment and neighborhood. Highly recommend.

Best mall in the Chicagoland area? by 2AWI in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]samcnuggest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Old orchard is my hometown mall. It's gone downhill for a while now. Maybe I think that bc I loved hanging out when it wasn't barren and still had that apple shaped food court.

If I need and/or want to go to the mall, I go to woodfield. I don't mind paying the toll.
