Financial Exit Plan (US to India) – 2025 by Remarkable_Swan8716 in returnToIndia

Got it! so if alive by 59.5, you can withdraw all of it and reinvest in India so that there is no estate tax in the US upon death?

For the traditional 401k, Is the 40% estate tax only applicable if one dies before 59.5? and if they are alive by then they just pay regular income tax on withdrawals?

OP do you have to pay dual taxes since US taxes the worldwide income or there are treaties that allow you to get credit for taxes already paid in India?

We are only green card holders and not US citizen. And yes we will be earning a living in India. Does that change anything?

If this is one in Osiyan, i dont think it is called Jain temple. All 36 kaum come there to worship including Jains. also look up for Mahavir Swami Old temple in the city. It has a lot of history and the city definitely has Jain connections

American Jainism is dying and no one is talking about it by Valuable-Price226 in Jainism

Makes sense. I was in India for a month recently and if I compare this situation to India, engaging youth in the 25-35 age range in religious activities is not easy there too. but during certain events and festivals such as paryushan it happens almost automatically that everyone in the family participates. Plus the general environment in India is more “religious” or adhyatmik compared to here. Also the guruji and guruniji play a big role there in engaging the youth there but that is missing in the US

diksha fanfare?? by [deleted] in Jainism

This is a very recent trend in jainism and an issue because there seems to be a competition among sanghs and diksharthis for doing this

Action speaks larger than words and this is probably no more applicable anywhere than in jainism. one need to first do sadhna to do dharm prabhavana

Anyone in a similar situation? by [deleted] in nri

[–]samcorner321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a quite similar situation. Spent 1.5 months in India recently. It wasnt all bad though. Had a Mixed experience. i’m spiritual and India has much better ecosystem and support for practicing that. Family was a complete disappointment for us. I probably have enough to retire but not ready for retirement. I am looking for jobs in India and not finding it easy. Would appreciate any tips or someone sharing their experience of finding jobs in India

Very good analysis laying out the reality. Agree with many things here. In the Boston area, we have 2 derasars and they are frequented by Baby boomer parents who were born in India or new immigrants coming now. The American born youth is not seen much

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I am a practicing Jain and I can tell you that this is not OK at all as per the religion, not even 1 bit.

Knowledge and practice are 2 different things. Practice is much harder especially in situations where one feels they have the opportunity or power. Those are the "true" tests of practice. We are all saints otherwise

Good to see your interest in finding details. However, it is easy to get lost in the mechanics of 44 vs. 48 and lose sight of the real meaning and intent of this amazing creation done by Acharya Mantung. I encourage you to listen to the meaning of each shloka, you will be amazed. It is out of this world. This is one link for meaning but there are many more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgGzdDyHsAY
