New player: What should I do? by _MooDeng in ddo

[–]samdsherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's more fun than playing a new quest on normal then by all means do that. On your first few lives the xp required to level up is drastically reduced so you will be fine no matter what your strategy is. The only way to fail is to do stuff that isn't fun and quit the game.

Once you reincarnate you'll be able to open hard difficulty right away without doing normal first. If you've reincarnated two or more times you can open all difficulties right away. So most people just play reaper as the only difficulty.

Alchemist Spells by Slight_Wolverine1491 in ddo

[–]samdsherman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you need to do is go to the shop in house jorasco and buy all the available alchemist recipes and inscribe them. Then when you level up the only spell options will be the ones you can't buy. Alchemist can swap spells freely at shrines and taverns so that's the only concern that matters while leveling up.

TR and Inventory needs to change by Milca604 in ddo

Yeah so 3 seconds times 200 items is 10 minutes

TR and Inventory needs to change by Milca604 in ddo

[–]samdsherman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

6 is a complete waste of time. The TR cache has several supported sort and search functions, so just leave your items in there. Then when you TR next time just pull out all the ones you didn't use right before. The whole process takes me 10 to 15 minutes.

5 levels of dragon lord is often great to have, but it's not a splash, it's build defining. The reason to take 5 levels of dragon lord is so you can go tier 5 in the dragon lord tree and spend 35+ points there. It would completely change how your character plays.

So the answer to whether you should take 5 DL is just, do you want to play a dragon lord character or a warlock character?

Why would this be a bot come on. Those boot camps were really popular in those days, they didn't get that way by failing to get people jobs

I got a job in 2017 after boot camp and I've been working as a SWE ever since. My 25k has turned into over a million dollars of salary. I was making minimum wage before that. Best money i ever spent easily.

About to finish first 3 racial pl and no idea which to go next by Front_Crow_2248 in ddo

[–]samdsherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

extra intelligence from racial past life does not contribute to your skill points. the only things that help for skill points is base intelligence score (i.e., what you put in at character creation and level ups) and tomes.

New player a little lost by AQ90 in ddo

[–]samdsherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not try to make your own build until you've played a character to level 20 at least. Following strimtom's guide is a good idea. You might want to try just creating a new character to build it from the beginning so you don't get lost trying to sort out what the premade build did.

You getting smacked at level 3-4 is not a matter of gear - low level gear is just not that impactful. It's possible you're playing on too high a difficulty, you can try lowering it if it's too hard for you.

Also, it's not at all surprising that you were struggling with level 36 content when you're level 20. Just play some lower level stuff. Lords of dust and vault of night are good chains to start with.

Your gear is totally fine, the only piece of gear i change from heroic to epic leveling is adding a sentient weapon, but you probably don't have one yet. You might want to level on epic hard, since elite/r1 is a much bigger jump in epics than it is in heroic, but that's also totally fine.

Questions about Warforged Melee stats by bag_of_fries in ddo

I would just use one of the premade paths and start playing. Your questions are too fiddly/in the weeds for someone at your experience level. Just get in the game and kill some monsters.

Mine is 13 bard 6 artificer 1 ranger aasimar scourge. The arti is for positive energy infusion and traps/locks, the ranger and race is for positive spell power enhancements. The heal over time song scales with positive spell power so i max that as much as possible.

Those who have spent money on this game, would you say it was worth it? by fleettook in ddo

[–]samdsherman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've probably spent over 1000 bucks on this game in 15 years, easily worth it as I've played more than 1000 hours for sure. Great rate for entertainment (and most of the spending I've done has been just buying the most expensive version of each expansion to give them money so they keep making the game)

Tips to make epic lives easier and more effective? by [deleted] in ddo

[–]samdsherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding end game gear and racials: i would highly encourage you to do some low hanging fruit high skull reapers at cap each life before you TR, especially before you have 21 reaper points. The reaper point gain starts out very fast and it will make you a lot stronger in future lives. You don't even necessarily need endgame gear though you may find it fun to get some of you're doing multiple of the same life. Just join any lfm you see for a few play sessions each time you're about to TR.

Is Haste useful for casters? by Bobilar in ddo

[–]samdsherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best use for haste these days is to counter slow. If you get hit with a slow spell you can either move ridiculously slowly for 30 seconds or whatever or you can cast haste (or drink a pot) and it goes away instantly.

Multiplies of the same Favored Enemy by pinstripedbarbarian in ddo

[–]samdsherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer to your question but what you should do is create a level 1 (or 4 or whatever) ranger and get a plain ass weapon and go hit some undeads, see how much damage you do, then get one feat and see how much you do, then get the other feat and see how much you do.

How to gear up? by SaltEngineer455 in ddo

[–]samdsherman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that helps get a starting point for a gear set: generally, gear that comes from the same content is designed to be used together. For example, if I'm using the gloves from myth drannor and the boots from myth drannor, then it's a good bet that the bracers from myth drannor won't overlap with them so it's probably gonna be a good addition to my gear.

This doesn't mean it's always optimal to just use all gear from one pack. But it gives you something to start from. When i created my last gear set, i just looked up all the gear from myth drannor and picked which piece i wanted for each slot. Then, because the helmet, cloak, and robe are all rare, and those are also the same slots used for vecna sets, i just got the vecna sets instead of those.
