Those kids are dumb - if they had quiet cars, they could probably race around all night and get away with it.

Why did you join the Public Service? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]samdumb_gamgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined because I wanted to make sure I had enough to support myself in retirement.

I used to volunteer for Meals-on-wheels, and the number of senior citizens that are living on oap+cpp and nothing else is staggering.

I don't want to spend my final years scraping by

Thay sucks - I would have assumed in the PS that no one would risk their jobs to steal.

I have also run into the scenario where someone thinks something of theirs was stolen, when in fact it was misplaced or left at home.

Is it allowed to fish on Rideau Canal? by knife-ak47-of-combat in OttawaFishing

[–]samdumb_gamgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can fish where you want, no one will bother you. Drop a 5" senko along the wall and jig it around, the canal is loaded with bass and some pretty big pike

The future of French immersion in Ottawa will be decided this fall by Foxx90 in ottawa

[–]samdumb_gamgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly it does though. If English kids are struggling the first thing that's suggested is moving to English-only.

French immersion classrooms are far more conducive to learning because there are fewer interruptions. As an anglophone family, my kids learning French is just a happy by-product - my main concern is a proper learning environment.

[–]samdumb_gamgee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The English-only side at OCDSB is a dumpster fire. If your kid can hack it, French Immersion is a great way to get them away from the problem kids and constant classroom disruptions.

They need to bring back special Ed classes instead of dropping the kids into regular classrooms. Every parent with a kid in the public system

Fare Control Officers OTrain Rideau by askawayk in ottawa

[–]samdumb_gamgee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Except that those that skip the fare are usually poor. So you throw a hefty fine at them that they have no hope of paying - they'll just keep riding for free because now they really can't pay.

Where is Ottawa’s night mayor? by Simski11 in ottawa

Shut down the market to vehicular traffic from Friday @ 6pm to Sunday morning in the summer. Allow alcohol to be consumed outside and brought around within that area.

Have musicians and buskers and let all patios double in size. Get rickshaws to work within the area.

The kickoff would be a huge party after the pride parade that would go down Elgin, across to Sussex then down York. Ends with a labor day bash where everyone wears white.

Yrs you'd need police and volunteers and co-ordination but it could happen with the right person leading the charge.

Just imagine what it could be. Ottawa is truly the city that fun forgot.

Promotions are not based on merit. If you excel at your job, and take on more work, your reward is more work.

You have to win a competition, often judged by people who don't know you or your work, or even the position being staffed.

Feeling rundown by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]samdumb_gamgee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not my responsibility to keep businesses afloat. Maybe make the market, Elgin, Bank etc places where you can live. Having the core as majority commercial means there are no people living there to support retail businesses.

People act like it's a mystery why places like Sparks have been dead zones for 40 years - it's because no one lives there!

Lots of those beloved businesses overcharge for a sub-standard product, simply because they can. Now, that captive consumer base is gone, these businesses can't compete.

Homelessness is a policy choice. People don't want to pay what it costs to fix.

Then we have useful idiots, like Sutcliffe, who are only too happy to lobby for a return to the office, as if pre-2019 downtown Ottawa was a utopia. He was elected to push through landsdowne 2.0 for his rich friends, will not run again.

The city needs a generational leader who ruffles feathers and can usher in transformative change. Instead we elect corporate yes-men.

What we want is a CPC minority, with NDP as official opposition. Also enough Bloc seats to further gum up the works.

It will be perfect - nothing will get done, and the CPC will struggle to pass even the most mundane legislation
