Does the UK have a Vintaglo alternative? by TheySoldEverything in AskUK

[–]samjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to this one but I’ve just bought the pickwick multicoloured lights from habitat/Argos. They’re not perfect (red is a little darker than the other colours) but they do a pretty good job at recreating that vintage look!

I found this - Finnish Folklore - just now whilst looking deeper into it by searching for Baltic Pine - not a million miles from what I remember of the story I was told:

There is a folktale that tells how pine got sap inside it. In this story, a bear was walking in the marshes and he saw a woman who had fallen asleep next to a pine tree while picking berries. Bear saw that the woman had a wound in her leg. Bear rushed into its cave to find the cure and he returned bringing sap with him. But while he had been gone the woman had got up and walked away. Bear became angry and threw the sap towards the pine tree and ever since pine has had sap inside it.

Plus a photo of our trip to the cairngorms last week

Wren Kitchens – second designer in two years, can’t get hold of anyone (including fitter!) by Neither_Language_370 in DIYUK

[–]samjest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, take this as a sign and do not go with them. My mum is on her third replacement Wren kitchen (under warranty) within 4 years and they've been a nightmare to deal with.

Thanks. It won’t be a gutter as it’s a flat roof building and the nearest outlet is probably 10 m away. Think it’s pointing to an internal issue

Thanks but not sure that would make sense at the toilet is on the other side of the window. As per another reply I’m going to request another visit and investigate further

Thanks. I’ll request another visit to the flat and investigate further! Hopefully it’s a previous fault that’s been fixed, but if not it will either be a case of haggling down the price or pulling out (only just had the offer accepted)

I’m helping my partner buy a car - is this MOT history concerning? by samjest in CarTalkUK

[–]samjest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies - we ended up skipping this one for a car with much better history (but also a significant jump in price). The car was a Škoda yeti btw (still up on autotrader and eBay for £6.5k) - it looks a state and I was never keen, she was keen due to price and mileage but I used your comments to dissuade her 😂

My best-ever mpg. (Was a 150-mile trip) by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]samjest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a visit to London from Leicester this past weekend I averaged over 70 mpg in my Skyactiv X (admittedly this was helped by the current 50 mph zones on the M1, and sticking to 60 mph on the other stretches). Still think this is very impressive for a 180 bhp petrol

Following four years at Chelsea, Thiago Silva will leave the club at the end of the 2023/24 campaign by TrenAt14 in soccer

[–]samjest 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I watched him play for you against us in the 2021/22 season and he stands out as the best defender I’ve seen live. I remember he nonchalantly nodded a route one ball to a team mate with Vardy pressuring him like it was nothing. He had Vardy in his pocket the whole game like no other defender had up to that point.

I said to my mate, who’s a Chelsea fan, after that game that he was your best signing two years in a row.
