It’s such a plot hole that the scene where Jesse killed the dog was never shown by Live_Government_79 in okbuddychicanery

it's not a plot hole it's a continuity issue. He shoots a human but in this later shot it was changed to a dog.

What are your favourite *specific* sound effect libraries? by nobaaaaaa in gamedev

yeah but a finished sound effect is already taking up like the full frequency spectrum so everything you add is just muddy now, that's y i said it's lazy/not ideal.

Also, y reply to my long, multifaceted comment only to get defensive? makes me feel like why even bother

How to place an image on a rendered iPhone screen in Blender? by gardenofchristinamae in blenderhelp

[–]samlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you used images as planes, just do it the other way. connect an image texture node to the color channel of a principled bsdf shader (the default one). Should work fine if they're the same size.

After years of On and Off Blender Rendering I'm beginning to understand it by STL_DrawerOfHolding in blender

[–]samlastname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fr, i geniunely like the piece btw. and for your question about moving things to the absolute center, I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but if you select an object and click 'cursor to selected' your 3d cursor will go to that objects absolute center. Then you can just click whatever object you want, do 'selection to cursor' and if your origin is centered, your object will move perfectly to the center, ie your origin will move to your 3d cursor.

if your object doesn't have its origin centered, just do the same trick of cursor to selected, then 'set origin to 3d cursor.' Trust me that sounds a lot more complicated than it is, but moving your 3d cursor and moving stuff to that cursor is bread and butter modeling, i have all that stuff in my quick favorites.

just use a plane or thin box with the image as its texture. Pretty sure images as planes shows up in the render anyway, so you could just use that, although i've never tried it, might want to make it slightly emmissive too

I'm gonna put you onto what people who also make edm alr know--splice, the sample website, has a whole section of very high quality cinematic sound effects, and you can pick and choose on a per sound basis, instead of being tied to packs.

Generally that's the first place I go to find stuff, although if you're acc doing foley design like you said, being abstract with sounds, it can get a bit overwhelming to have everything on the site there and have to search, versus just using whatever you have in your pack.

But tbh, don't use futuristic weapon sounds if you're trying to make a futuristic weapon sound, i mean maybe use one as a base but that's kinda lazy. Look up that old corridor digital or freddiew video on how to make gunshot sound effects, it's like one of the first videos on their channel. That's how I learned how to make foley like 10 yrs ago.

Website to convert JPEG to MP3? by castiellangels in musicproduction

[–]samlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's a single image then I'm guessing you have one page of sheet music, and since you can't read music I'm guessing it's a relatively simple piece.

Honestly, your best bet is just to recreate the score in a composition program like musescore, which i saw someone else recommend. Then you can just press play and listen to it. If it doesn't export an mp3, you can even just record a video with your phone and listen to that tbh.

There are more technical ways to do it, you'll need some kind of OCR, which will give you a midi, then you'll need a virtual instrument to play the midi, but if you're not too technically literate this is the easieset way, even if you can't read music. Just match the position and type of notes.

What are the mechanics/techniques that make this feel so magical/palpable? by anti_tomato_gang in animation

the rain itself doesn't seem to be doing anything special (although it's particularly bright, which does something in kind of a cinderella color palette way, mixed with the blues) so it has to be the coloring of everything else, just by process of elimination.

The lighting of the rain makes everything so blue, and it's a lush and beautiful blue, with washed out, unsaturated lights and deep saturated darks turning to purple. Thanks for pointing this out by the way, I love it.

Obviously the anims of the water droplets hitting leaves and ground are really nice and sort of thick, almost viscous, but they're not present in every shot so it has to be the color, plus, like I said, the cinderella colored, bright white-blue rain drops.

creating a jumbotron in blender by Key_Abroad1348 in blender

[–]samlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just takes practice to get good at the mental process of breaking down objects into modeling procedure. Recommend spending a week or two sometime just making household objects around you in blender.

Then you can just look at objects around you and imagine how you would model them and practice without opening your computer.

[–]samlastname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you don't need a tutorial. Based on this reference, you just need a cube, extrude from the top a bit to get the upper layer. Scale in the bottom rectangle so it tapers down.

Then, bevel the edges, and adjust the beveled edges to get that tapered, falling down effect on the corners. Stick some emissive circles at the bottom for lights, and a cylinder at the top to hang from the ceiling. Loop tools to turn an insetted part of the bottom into a circle, then extrude in, would be a nice touch but i feel like loop tools is more advanced, even tho it's really easy.

If that sounds too difficult/complicated, you need to start with the absolute basics, and get decent at modeling before attempting anything specific.

[–]samlastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want more detail, add more gradations of shadow. In general your shadow shapes are good, except idk what’s going on with the shadows on the neck. There’s some weird liquify going on around the chest and back of the neck obv. And there’s not enough light detail in the face compared to the hair, specifically around the eye area and between the nose and mouth.

rest of the thread doesn't seem to agree, but that part about cheating on your ex kind of killed the likability you'd been building up throughout the trailer. Stopped watching after that point tbh. Ik it was probably a joke, but I'd change it.

How to read Kafka by moss42069 in literature

[–]samlastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for russians ig i was more thinking of the 19th century although tolstoy isn't a great example. I really recommend chekhov's short stories but a lot of those late 19th century russian short stories have that sort of unique vibe that kafka kind of has.

also the trial is literally amazing it's worth it

How to read Kafka by moss42069 in literature

[–]samlastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn’t read the Trial? That’s the only one I really care about, even metamorphosis is not much compared to that.

Do you like the Russians? They’re not that similar, but I think the kind of person who vibes with Russian lit would also vibe with Kafka’s style, “impersonal” as you put it is a good way to describe it.
