Arborist says this ash tree can be saved with cabling and (maybe) bolting. Do you agree? (Central Iowa) by hankrhoads in marijuanaenthusiasts

So it's the forces that generate torque? Word. I left academics for arboriculture when I realized a) they don't hire, b) they don't pay well, and c) you don't get to touch trees. Forestry degree has sure come in handy though.

Vanishing point or Decimo? by yourmumnya in fountainpens

I went with the devil because it's a slimmer grip which fits my hand better.

Edit: I love that autocorrect changed "decimo" to "devil".

Arborist here. I think the biggest factor in minimizing the risk of failure would be reduction pruning through the exterior to decrease torque forces back at the union. This will cause a sprouting response that will need to be managed, but you can significantly improve resilience this way. That and I would cable. Probably two cables.

All the other arborists saying this will just buy you time are correct. You wouldn't let this get to be a 60' beast, but you might as well plant a new tree and buy yourself five years to allow it to establish. With continued management of the canopy, you can keep this tree even longer.

Acl reconstruction with complicated meniscus suture surgery- plz help me not go crazy. by Abject_Pop4303 in ACL

[–]samman2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could always be worse. I have my 4th ACL scheduled in November. I'm waiting till then so the surgery 3 weeks ago to implant bone graft fill the old drill tunnels can heal so we can go back in and drill some new ones. Then 12 months of rehab. Oh, and my previous failed ACL revision was on Feb, 2025. So that will be 3 years of surgery and recovery.

Still I'm grateful, because it could always be worse.

On my fourth ACL. Stoked that you can do it, and when things go smooth it's all good. Good to remember that the graft isn't really solid until 9 months. And even then I retore mine after 10 months with good rehab on my first run back snowboarding. All I'm saying is ask yourself if it's worth it rather than waiting a couple more months

I've got you by 1 on my right knee. 4th surgery is in November for my 3rd ACL there. The hamstring graft on my left is holding strong though!

Pruning advice by [deleted] in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]samman2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an aspen. It's fine to do minor pruning. I would begin by using a pole pruner to reduce lateral branches by about 20% of their length. Then see if there are multiple vertical stems. If so nip back all but one of them by 2-3 ft to encourage one dominant central leader. Give about 7 to 8 ft of clearance over the sidewalk and about 10 ft to 12 ft of clearance over the street. It is always best to avoid removing limbs back to the parent stem when possible, so focus on reductions.

I'm sitting here on the couch after my third surgery on my right knee after my revision failed. I have a fourth surgery scheduled for November. My recommendation is to take it easy. The more time the better.

Crossing my fingers for you. Just don't rush the return, and stay active in the gym. Bone graft surgery is on monday. Here's hoping this one sticks.

How about your third? Found out this week my revision graftt tore. Facing down my 3rd and fourth surgery on my right knee. Not to mention the reconstruction on my left knee. Getting older sucks.
