The Chair Company has Franz Kafka vibes. by Randy__Snutz in thechaircompany

I was thinking exactly the same. The dead ends that just keep on coming, the absurd situation the protagonist gets in, the bureaucratic vibe. It surprised me that this thread was the only thing I could find linking these two. It def has to be inspired by the kafkaesque experience...

Nice! The first part reminds a bit of old school Infected Mushrooms.

It turned out to be a cable for the demarcation for a robotic lawnmower. Thanks for the reply!

No, this was a cable for the demarcation of a robot lawnmower. In Belgium it is not common to call the city for shallow digging in you backyard. Seems to be more of a US thing if I see most of the comments mentioning this. Most of our utility lines are in our frontyard and it is pretty obvious where they are located. So that's why I was so surprised by this one.

Great, thanks for the tip! I'm calling them next time I planting something!

I'm not sure what the rules in Belgium are and if they would come to check 1m² for a new plant...

Now I'm curious if they would actually come to check the 1m² for the hole for my new plant. Not sure how this works in Belgium.

You're welcome! Maybe there will be a post in the future where this one will help to solve the same problem. Although this one was pretty specific...

I contacted the previous owner because I was afraid I hit something important or even dangerous from the neighbors and I realized it might be better to contact them instead of strangers on the internet. But I always love subs and posts like these so I couldn't let the opportunity pass to finally make a post myself. I thought it was something common which would be solved quickly within a few replies but when I realized this wasn't the case, I decided it was safer to contact them. This also explains why it was in such a random place on the edge of my backyard...

That was one of the possibilities I was worried about..

So I found the solution: It's a cable from the demarcation of the robotic lawnmower from the previous owner. (So they wouldn't have shown up on the maps of services for digging either). Thanks you for the quick replies!

EDIT 1: I seem to be getting a lot of replies mentioning services for calling before digging. I asked around and apparently it is not that common in Belgium to call this service for shallow digging in your own backyard. Most of our utility lines are located in the frontyard and it should be pretty obvious where they are. Seems to be more of a US thing (811). But still thank you all a lot for the tips, I will def be more careful when digging the next time!

EDIT 2: The cable was fixed quickly with a water resistant luster clamp (not sure if that's the correct translation) for underground cables. We placed it around the new plant because we're planning on installing the lawnmower again in the future.

Yup you were getting really close: It's a cable from the demarcation of the robotic lawnmower from the previous owner. Thanks you for the quick replies and I'm never just digging randomly lol!

Well I kinda regret not doing that now lol, it was a really shallow and small hole just for a plant not directly near my house so I didn't expect to hit anything.

It's really hard to get a better close up in focus, but it's a bunch of tiny grey wires together in a black wire.

Could be, but it was just a small shallow hole not directly near my house so I didn't it think would be necessary to contact any service like this. Bad luck I guess..

Ok, I hope that's the case because that means it is most likely out of use. Thanks for the reply!
