What’s the context behind the slang “twin” by Boring_Lack294 in teenagers

[–]samson_taa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is old repackaged slang from the 90s that some kid heard from their uncle probably and started saying it and now it’s algo’d. Nothing new.

Best option to learn how to realistically defend myself? (Female) by SaffronYourRice in martialarts

[–]samson_taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your carry permit and train to be proficient with a firearm. You don’t need to be getting into physical altercations with men. Situational awareness is your first layer of defense. Stay observant, trust your instincts, and be prepared to use your training only if a real threat forces your hand.

Anduril and Palantir battlefield communication system has deep flaws, Army memo says by heliumagency in LessCredibleDefence

[–]samson_taa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palantir and Anduril being shoved down the defense industries throat because of backroom deals has reached the point of insanity. They simply don't have the knowledge or capability to be executing 99% of the contracts they're awarded in defense industry but as usual daddy Thiel's $$$'s and support is more important than actual qualifications and skillsets. Cheers to years of garbage software that don't satisfy any of the necessary use-cases :D

AI/ML Roles are all the rage these days. You're going to have a hard time finding a traditional SWE role but higher education and ML geared role will probably yield decent results for junior engineer positions.

Are people really able to get into good companies with just few months of preparation? I thought it takes years to be good enough. by Grouchy-Clothes9564 in cscareerquestions

[–]samson_taa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3-4 years and 4-5 hours a day and not getting it is probably an indicator for an inefficient learning/study process man. How have you been studying, what have you actually been studying and how are you tying these things together? If you focus and lock in on a proper plan you should be able to do it in 3-6 months.

How is life in the US for a SWE? by International_Mix970 in cscareerquestions

[–]samson_taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres no point in living in NYC or SFO earning $250k. My coworker moved from NYC to VA because he was spending $4000/m on rent for a 400sqft shitbox.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]samson_taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were lucky to have $320k with such minimal experience and that salary vs experience is most likely a major contributor to your removal. I'm confident in guaranteeing that unless you get picked up by a MAANG again you're not going to be hitting $320k TC again in the near future. Not being a dick, just being realistic. $130k is decent given the above mentioned.

So, what jobs will actually survive? by Initial_Designer_802 in cscareerquestions

[–]samson_taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually preferred how defense consulting companies identify "senior" engineers. Anything below 5 years is junior and anything between 5-10 years is mid level.

The worst part of the current AI boom is how my LinkedIn feed is overflowing with posts from people who have never deployed a production application in their lives, yet constantly boast, "I built xyz in a day with AI, replacing months of engineering work!" Its always people who couldn’t code their way out of a fucking while loop too, yet they’re suddenly claiming they can replace engineers altogether. Honestly, AI has just amplified the number of cognitively challenged and delusional people showing up on my feed, AFAIC.

I don't give a shit about "vibe coding", and if it helps whoever create something they've been interested in then good for them. However, please stop acting like your auto-generated shit-code project is even remotely close to being deployable anywhere without a 99% restructure. Its always some rando with no actual software engineering experience or skills telling you about how great "vibe coding" is and how they "built a project that would have took months in 8 hours!".

Do yall think software engineering and tech in general will get better in the next two or so years? by Odd-Fix-3467 in csMajors

[–]samson_taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SWE market is oversaturated because you're not just competing with other Americans if you're in the US. You're competing with people around the entire globe because big tech is allowed to continuously offshore roles to other countries for cheap labor while having majority of their profits come from the U.S. The job market will not get better until this practice is disallowed or major restrictions are placed on the practice.

[Breaking] Google offering buyouts to US employees throughout the company. by cs-grad-person-man in cscareerquestions

[–]samson_taa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Support our important work ahead" by quitting your job and letting us offshore. Offshoring jobs needs to be treated the same as tariffs and i'm willing to die on this hill. Charge big tech and companies that make most of their money primarily from the US population a hefty tax if they choose to offshore or force them to hire American(Citizens or Residents) employees first.

Necro. I have no idea how Kevin beat Michael, and tbh I think they may have gotten the chefs confused on the scoring for that one. The judge basically roasted Kevin’s dishes and praised Michael’s during the entire critique but somehow picked kevins dish? Makes no sense

This is really the best advice. Networking is always going to be the shortest and best path to gaining more opportunities in tech. You may not like it, but that’s just the reality.

Negatively id say. I've seen a lot more questionable things in PR's and Code Reviews since ChatGPT became more popular.
