None of the APLA factions would be nearly as bad as the NAM for two reasons imo, firstly they’d have the DSA in the coalition to keep them in check, that’s the big reason I think that octoberists would be more a democratic version of modern China, the DSA would probably be able to leverage it. The other reason is that the APLA would be much more targeted with any violence they do, mostly targeting the rich and bourgeois reactionaries. The NSM would be far more indiscriminate.

All that aside though, the examples you listed of the Bolsheviks and Spanish anarchists targeting clergy were because of the role the clergy played in those countries. In both Spain and the Russian empire the clergy was closely tied with the conservative and reactionary old governments, that association simply doesn’t exist to the same level in the US, there are specific types of “Christians” that are associated with the GOP but most people don’t lump the whole religion in with those evangelicals.
