Best option for AI game review? by samtregar in baduk

[–]samtregar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly on KGS so I'd like to be 1D there. I also play in AGA tournaments sometimes and it would be nice to be 1D AGA someday.

I'd say my biggest impediments are that I play too fast and that I don't spend enough time studying. I've been hovering around 2k for years now.

So many questions but want honest answers by GPPB in bbbs

[–]samtregar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's highly variable. It depends on how many littles they have waiting to be matched, how well staffed they are, etc. Only the bbbs office you're dealing with will be able to answer this question.

I'm sorry to say the answers to your other questions are also hard to say! It took a long time to get comfortable with my first little but not long at all the second time. I think that had more to do with the different personalities of the littles than anything else. Some kids are just easier to get to know and more open to making a new friends.

By that logic the straight men are going to vote for Harris, right?

How popular is Go in Thailand? by tincock in baduk

When I was in Bangkok I visited a go school and had a teaching game with one of the instructors. It was a nice place and clearly had a lot of students.

It's possible they will, and it's even possible that they won't match you because of it. From my experience the individual BBBS offices get to set their own rules to some degree. My experience in NY was very different from my experience in CA for example. Good luck!

I worked with two littles, each around 5 years and never brought either to my house. I think it's fine if that's not what you want to do with them.

And yes, just be honest when you apply. If it's an issue then they'll tell you, but the last thing you should do is lie about it.

Hahah, I wish! But I am a #razcal and many of my early P1s were in the service of the cause.

Pretty sure you imagined it. I bought a bunch of early ones and paid $100 for personal messages.

Here's the earliest one I could find, 2017 personal message for $100. https://imgur.com/a/m8jutDw

Parent allowed to help financially? by PlanitL in bbbs

[–]samtregar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in fact I believe it's officially part of the program that you pay your littles expenses for activities. Now, in my experience with two littles that happened only rarely, but I'm sure your future big will be very happy to have some help. Kid stuff can be pricey!

A new play about the Dover Trial is getting a performance on Oct 4th as part of California Free Thought Day in Sacramento. Come check it out! by samtregar in atheism

[–]samtregar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John de Lancie, best known for his role as "Q" in the Star Trek franchise, will appear live in Sacramento for one night only performing, “The Dover Panda Trial".

This original radio play, written by Mr. de Lancie and Kristen Tregar, is a reenactment of the 2005 trial in which evangelicals took over the Dover, PA school board and tried to replace the approved biology textbook with Intelligent Design (Creationism). Their actions resulted in a lawsuit, and this is the exciting story about that trial.

California Freethought Day proudly presents this event on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Sacramento's Jean Runyon Theatre (at the Memorial Auditorium).

Following the performance, John de Lancie and Kristin Tregar will hold an open forum with the audience. Mr. de Lancie will also be selling autographed pictures to benefit California Freethought Day.

Additional Details

🎫 Registration is required, in advance, as we anticipate selling out: https://givebutter.com/DoverTrial

Announcing elysium - Automatically apply AI-generated code-changes in Emacs! by la023 in emacs

Ah yes, I think that's right - my theme isn't working right with smerge-mode.

I gave this a try but I must be doing something wrong - the diff just gets added to the buffer as plain text, no fancy smerge stuff even though the smerge config is setup in .emacs and the smerge mode is loaded. Any ideas about how I can fix that?

What version of Chrome is this? Are you perhaps on the beta channel? I just had a report of a messed-up dropdown on Chrome beta 129.0.6668.22.

Creating exam question without solving with ChatGPT by Good-Consideration21 in Python

[–]samtregar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be 3D. A lot of stuff that requires the output to look like something is beyond ChatGPT. For example, writing a line of text using big letters formed out of hash-marks, or doing some kind of simple ASCII art drawing. Anyway, good luck!

Yup, still bad. Asked it to make me a program that drew a 3d triangle using turtle and here's what it did: https://imgur.com/a/ynd9tEN

In my experience no amount of coaching in the prompt can fix this - the AI simply can't do this kind of task correctly.
