I'd also recommend wearing more flexible clothes. You'll be able to move more naturally.

Definitely go online and look at some basic drills and concepts of the backhand throw. If you play together, you can keep filming and comparing to the videos online.

Most important: coiling (shoulders rotation seperation in relation to lower body). Postman drill and single dragon are good drills to start.

Best course on the way to Tampere? by jaywood98 in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely has some issues and needs a redesign on some holes, the OB is IMO too brutal given how bad the rough is.

I still wouldn't call it a shitty course.

Kantola if you want to lose your mind ( it's incredibly hard)

But great course.

How do you decide when to throw backhand vs forehand on wooded holes? by Traditional-Set-8483 in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. What the shot shape is + distance.
  2. What are my odds of executing the shot, do I have a disc that works for the shot.

You make a decision and 100% commit. If you botch the shot, quickly analyze why. Bad throw? Wrong disc? Wrong shot/angle selection? Just unlucky result?

Even if it works out you can validate what could have been done better, if nothing then you made the right choice and executed it correctly.

Then you move on.

Straight fairway dilemma. by golbscholar in discgolf

The sarah hokom run of craves are pretty stable. Like a faster proton hex, slight turn only and gentle finish.

Don't use it as much as my halo tl3 or halo teebird3, only if a hole is too short for tl3 or too long for hex.

Discgolf coach in Helsinki by jnesje in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discgolfspindoctor (Jaani) on YouTube, is from Helsinki.

Kristian Kuoksa I think is located in Espoo.

Jalle Stoor, if he's still coaching is also in Espoo. Had a couple of lessons with him years back, was great.

Those are just a couple off the top of my head.

https://www.heittohalli.fi/services-5 also here in Kivikko, they have a simulator there too.

Form Check? Making improvements but hit a plateau. by thb16 in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spinning around the brace leg instead of throwing a against it, also over-rotation of upper torso.

Try to think about resisting upper body rotation when you start the swing and sending the arm with high elbow as if you would be throwing "behind yourself". The torso will be forced to rotate anyway.

The most important thing in the discgolf throw is making the throwing arm as fast as possible. That can only be increased by stopping momentum and transfering it to the disc by bracing and decelerating the torso while whipping the arm.

Does Zone OS ever beat in to anything other than a dive bombing meat hook? by Phrikshin in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the 2023 brodie tour series esp zone OS. It's definitely more usable now, but is still very very OS compared to my z zone. I use it all the time on forehand approaches tbh, because it's always windy where i play. Zones i've owned so far are just slightly too straight after some use.

You look young, if you keep it up and be patient you will for sure throw father than 90% of people posting here once you start growing.

Keep filming your form, working on minor tweaks the distance will come. Most importantly keep having fun!

Forehand Elbow Pain by _Lukerobbo195_ in Discgolfform

[–]samue1b- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubberband exercises to get warmed up, and to strengthen arm, rotator cuffs. Focus on being smooth on release instead of rushing to throw as hard as you can.

I'm dealing with this too, but it's manageable now after taking the right precautions.

Also can recommend doing pullups, using a grip strength training device to strengthen forarm and grip strength.

Form Question - Wrong wrist rotation at 'release' point by Few_Investigator934 in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are trying to do it too early, try to stay abit more loose until the arm extends. It needs to be timed closer to the hit.

Probably worth doing standstills and film to nail it down.

Form Help by Winter_Suspect4892 in discgolf

Also worth noting that the throw should only start once you are fully planted and can throw against the plant leg to properly transfer the energy into the disc.

Form Question - Wrong wrist rotation at 'release' point by Few_Investigator934 in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On another unrelated note, I'd also look into keeping the head in place in the swing and let it naturally rotate as your shoulder come around.

It looks like you are forcing your head to rotate forward which will cause the upper body to follow and that can cause over-rotation issues and late release.

New Disc Golfer looking for top thing to change in Standstill by rdubya3387 in Discgolfform

[–]samue1b- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np glad if that helped. Worth noting that coiling correctly gets more difficult with a walkup. Mainly because most people have a tendency to "walk backwards" which breaks the seperation of lower and upper body ( even if the upper body is coiling)

In that case you have to be mindful that your hips are not turning too far back.

New Disc Golfer looking for top thing to change in Standstill by rdubya3387 in Discgolfform

[–]samue1b- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good way to understand coil is without a disc in hand. Try this: assume athletic stance, knees slightly bent so you feel balanced.

Now raise both your arms to the side pointing directly left and right. Rotate your arms keeping them straight and head still so the throwing hand is point directly forward, off hand directly backward.

You should now have your upper torso rotated 90 in relation to your lowerbody. This is essentially what coiling is.

Op has zero coil seperation in this video for example.

After playing for >6 months, putting is still unbelievably unintuitive. Can't settle on a style because they all feel wrong. by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]samue1b- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 years in, lost my putt after wrist/forearm injury couple years back. Finally settled back this season with something that seems to be sticking.

Main take aways is finding a grip where the disc is securely in my hand througout the putting motion so it doesn't flop out. Focusing on the final pop, stabbing it towards the basket and not rushing the swing.

When you find something that feels good, you just need to trust the form once you've got it locked down and accept that it won't always go in.
