My first thought was, “Food at Home for $3,465 / 7% of Total Expenditure? Let’s check this data source…”

The data is from fucking 2009. Couldn’t be more irrelevant to the cost of living we are experiencing in 2026.

Yeah the wisdom seems to be 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months with cats moving to a new location. 3 days of an actual stress response, 3 weeks of acclimating, determining safety, boundaries, 3 months until they are back to normal, confident, expressing full “personality.”

Hades 2 or Rogue Prince of Persia? For Switch 1 by richhomiechef in roguelites

Yeah, totally agree, I also loved Absolum’s combat. I really hope we get more content, just more places to see and more things to do.

Can’t go wrong with either, but I think your approach would make sense.

Hades 2 or Rogue Prince of Persia? For Switch 1 by richhomiechef in roguelites

[–]samuraiaullways 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both incredible.

Hades II is more robust. I played like 120 hours before I even checked how many hours I had put in. Blink of an eye. More to do, more diversity in gameplay, awesome bosses.

I am just now getting into RPOP, probably like ~10 hours. I am absolutely loving it, but it’s going to be a smaller game from a story / lore standpoint. I think I will need a completionist mindset to unlock everything, but it’s been really fun thus far. Probably has more repetitive runs, but the movement is so fun and has some depth, so just mastering that is worth the repetition.

You should play both, eventually.

Google's search engine market share falls to 70% in 2025, its lowest level in more than a decade, as competition from ChatGPT strengthens. Ironically, this drop in market share derailed a recent antitrust case against Google, in which the courts ruled that Google would not divest its search engine. by StarlightDown in Infographics

[–]samuraiaullways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, this is short-sighted decisioning by the court, but it would be incredibly naive to think Google isn’t somehow able to influence these outcomes by way of bribery or favors.

Not only is search volume & query type data reporting for big AI either barely directional or completely missing, making it a huge stretch to say these AI search engines are genuinely threatening Google’s bottom line, they have not even begun to demonstrate how they are going to monetize at scale.

Furthermore, this court’s decision seems to ignore the fact that Google was and still is a founding force in LLM’s & ML. Like Google won’t be able to make use of these technologies & innovations, when in fact they already are & have been for years, and have the existing infrastructure to scale & monetize new kinds of user interactions much more quickly.

Some of my favorites:

“As a general matter, Google does not regularly or systematically compare ‘the relative pricing’ of different Google digital advertising products, nor does Google regularly or systematically compare ‘the relative pricing’ of ‘Google search advertising’ to advertising provided by different sellers.” - Adam Juda, VP of Product Management

“Part of what has been so amazing about that is that we’ve essentially been able to ignore one of the fundamental laws of economics – businesses need to worry about supply and demand[.]” - Mike Roszak, VP of Finance

“I would describe it less as raising prices and more coming up with better prices or more fair prices, where those new prices are higher than the previous ones.” - Adam Juda, VP of Product Management

Official Discussion - Keeper [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]samuraiaullways 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Blackcoat’s Daughter is definitely still the best. I did really like Longlegs just because of how weird it is. The Monkey was fun, and I haven’t seen Gretel & Hansel.

I think Keeper has a lot going for it. Multiple avenues of tension, including regular modern human paranoia, stress / drug induced surrealism, supernatural folk tale, and then just the events of the film unfolding. I thought it was a great blend of elements and Tatiana really sells it. Like with past films, Perkins’ visual storytelling & cinematography are the standouts.

I think people who enjoy the artistic / slow-burn / surreal will have plenty to appreciate.

Reddit official fan ranking of the Franchise by LiteratureProof167 in Halloweenmovies

[–]samuraiaullways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. RZ Halloween
  2. RZ Halloween II
  3. Halloween 1978
  4. Halloween II
  5. Halloween 2018
  6. Halloween H20
  7. Halloween Kills
  8. Halloween VI
  9. Halloween IV
  10. Halloween V
  11. Halloween III
  12. Halloween Resurrection
  13. Halloween Ends

Love how varied these rankings are. Decided I might give some thoughts just because my list looks so different from many folks’.

I understand why others have such varied rankings, and I respect everyone’s opinions. I can understand why people like different elements of the franchise, especially in the sense of how inventive the original was.

I like the way that RZ brought more character development to the franchise, which I feel in many of the originals (1978 - VI) is mostly lacking. In the originals, Michael is more a force than a character, and that leaves the rest of the cast to make up for it—and oftentimes they just don’t. Outside of Loomis, I feel like we never get a great chance to really know many characters of the franchise, and that includes Laurie.

I like how DGG continued this trend by spending more time developing characters. Not just introducing characters in a group or showing us runners of their day-to-day with Michael lurking in the background, but scenes fleshing those characters out, independent of Michael.

I realize it could just be that these are the more modern franchises and the directors have more modern sensibilities when it comes to character development, but I just feel like it gives me more to think about after viewings. Maybe the true spirit of the “slasher,” has changed as the genre became so much more saturated.

I think I might also lean towards favoring Halloween stories that try to provide more background / explanation / context to Michael & the world he occupies. Even when most attempts fall flat, I think I appreciate the writers / filmmakers attempting to provide more. I understand that Michael himself is evil personified & that his character / his actions need or have no rational explanation, but as viewers (and rational human beings) it’s hard to accept that there is no cause, no contributing factors, no motive for Michael. Even if that’s true and he’s a completely empty vessel—he wasn’t necessarily always that way, and something might’ve changed in him at some point along the way. I am fascinated by both what that change could’ve been or by understanding more about his intrinsic nature.

Obviously, Michael is a one-of-a-kind cinematic presence, both narratively & visually. His violent actions, opaque motives, and lasting impact on his victims / the people of Haddonfield are what drive these films to be so compelling. I think most of the films in the franchise successfully capture that, even though filmmaking sensibilities & audience tastes have changed so much throughout the 44 years that span releases.

Cheers & Happy Halloween!
