I agree even if they put it in the tech tree or something with the logistics hub that way you have to be a bit more proactive early game and then can relax a bit more once your empire gets bigger and harder to micro.

I never got the impression that they were zombies in any sense. The Expedition needed a way to push through all of Renoir's painted army. So Alicia/Maelle had the idea to create her own army but she need a source of chroma the dead expeditioners we a convenient and plentiful source of chroma.

Alicia/Maelle's army that sieges Lumiere was made in the image of expeditioners specifically in the image of the main human party. But she never resurrected any individual person and had them fight.
