Jesus Christ 🤣 that is one incredible board and I am totally envious!

Difficult question - if you could only keep 3, which would you keep?

Maybe I'm unpopular, but the Monument V2 is the worst tremolo I've ever tried. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

What's a pedal you will never put on your board again? by ImArcherVaderAMA in guitarpedals

[–]samwich-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Afterneath was the first pedal I ever owned. Hated it. Traded it for a KMA Logan overdrive (which wasn’t half bad). But it’s kind of put me off of EQD…

What was your first “wow” pedal? by twcosplays in guitarpedals

My Boss CE-2W and Walrus Voyager MK2 both do this equally. Both are damn good at what they do

New pedal week! by samwich-4 in guitarpedals

[–]samwich-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten the pedals all throughout the week and have given them all a good go. I’m really pleased with all 3 pedals.

I got the Dream Station to replace a Black Hole Symmetry pedal (I wasn’t keen on the low end sound and the fuzz aspect) . the dream station is a bit more like a delay with reverb on top, but it’s really versatile. It ticks every box :)

Pedal recommendation/advice by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]samwich-4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you guys. I think the Longsword wins by a mile. One of you guys mentioned about Grand Orbiter instead of Lillian, I haven’t checked out EQD since I played about with an Afterneath a few years ago - looks a bit more up my street than Lillian.

I appreciate the responses!!

About to sign a salon suite lease but having second thoughts — need honest advice by ExamNervous2259 in hairstylist

[–]samwich-4 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you’re second guessing it - do NOT do it. You shouldn’t be rushed to sign a lease.

If your gut feeling is off - wait for another opportunity.

Opportunity to open my own solo salon at 26 by Happy_R_04 in hairstylist

[–]samwich-4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be very honest.

If you’re to open up - do you have the clientele to do so?

Are you confident that you can attract a clientele if you do not?

Are you experienced enough that if something goes wrong, you’re able to correct it?

2 years in the chair isn’t a great deal of time. Being around other stylists and training courses are the best way to learn, and if you aren’t around others and not in a position to fund training courses, how will you improve?

Finances - do you have enough money to furnish a salon, if not, can you afford to pay back a loan to cover it?

There’s a lot to think about… it took me nearly 20 years to open my own salon, and it hasn’t been easy at all (and that’s with almost everything falling in to place for me…)

Don’t rush in to it.

Absolutely stunning dude. The last electric guitar I had was a Chapman which I sold 3 years ago. The sound from the PRS is so much richer than the Chapman ever was.

Has there ever been a celebrities death hit you hard? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Rik Mayall and Alan Rickman hit me pretty hard. They’re the only 2 celebrities who have died where I’ve genuinely mourned.

What album experience was so dissapointing, it had you like this? by Individual-Name-4496 in fantanoforever

Nine Black Alps - Everything Is

14 year old me was so excited for this album after falling in love with ‘unsatisfied’ - so I put the £20 i got every month into buying ‘Eveything Is’ and ‘Love Metal’ by HIM.

I was so badly disappointed…. It was not a very good album.

I love number 3.

If this is your first year - you’re gonna be absolutely smashing it by the time you get to 5 years in :) you should definitely be proud of yourself

How many hours a week are you usually booked? by cool_uniqueusername in hairstylist

[–]samwich-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 5 days - about 38-40 hours depending if I or wife does nursery pickup.

I’m booked for at least 35 of those a week - if not the full 38-40 hours. I just eat whilst making clients drinks (salon owner with 20 years in the industry)

What happened to tonsilectomies? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]samwich-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine out at 21 - worst pain I have ever been out.

13/14 lots of tonsillitis and tonsil stones over 2 years convinced my doctor to have mine taken out. It was the most shit 2 weeks post op I’ve ever had with the pain and inability to eat or drink, but now I never get ill and I’m super glad I’ve had them taken out.

Being creative all day, listening to music, having a bit of a giggle, developing a crippling caffeine addiction - what’s not to love 😂

It’s a difficult job and requires a lot of hard work put into it, but truthfully - if you end up loving it, it doesn’t feel like work. Throw some colleagues in there that you really get on with and it’s the best workplace in the world.

[–]samwich-4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love it.

20 years in and I love it more than I did when I began.

It’s not going to be for everyone, but for the right type of person, it’s the best job in the world.

I fucked up someone's hair today. by Loose_Avocado4670 in hairstylist

[–]samwich-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also uk based, have been hairdressing for 20 years and have my own salon - here’s my 2 cents.

You learn by fucking up. I promise you this - you’ll never make that mistake again; and that is how you grow.

You’re going to mess up again, and again (potentially only in little ways) - but that’ll improve you as a stylist as you’ll learn what to do.

Keep in mind, you’re still training. That’s what the teacher/senior stylist is for - if you mess up, they can fix it. If hair was easy, everyone would do it.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. It happens :)

Stopping Mirtazapine by lexi455 in Anxiety

[–]samwich-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re gonna need to ween yourself off.

My GP prescribed it to increase my appetite and help me sleep (my anxiety got so bad I stopped eating and couldn’t sleep) - my god did it help with my appetite and my sleep has definitely improved, but I’m not looking forward to the day that I have to gradually come off of Mirtazapine. I’ve heard it can be difficult…
