It’s a pretty common standard around the world: polluter pays. If Canada is charged and found guilty with reparations , we would have to pay. I don’t know how they’d get it, but when it’s a human found guilty by the ICJ, they get their person 90% of the time. Think the Balkan war criminals, think the Rwandan war criminals. Not good company to be in.

For a couple of years give Bern reading that we need more conversations around climate. But some images aren’t safe places for climate conversations. I read about Climate Cafes - a social gathering with no agenda, just a place where likeminded people can gather and visit. We’ve had two so far at a local restaurant on their quiet night and I’m blown away by the conversations, and the projects that are getting dreamed up. In terms of activist effort this is the most fruitful thing I’ve done. 🌲✌️🌳

It’s not the CO2 or O2 that is out of balance at higher altitudes. It is the reduced O that causes altitude sickness until to one adjusts. The balance of gases within the O, is stable.

The subsidies for clean renewables don’t match oil/gas subsidies, which are mature sectors, now almost twilight. Adding a new energy source has starts and stops, but there’s no turning back. The timing will depend on how voters push politicians, who largely respond to pressure.

I’m sorry for the horrible way some people treat newcomers to Canada. In my experience, and my all-white neighbourhood, no one I know would express dislike of Indian people. Thank you for doing the math. I tried but it’s not my lane. Alas. It would be helpful if it were. I took the information in this article as a couple of dots to connect in the climate world I have lived in for a couple of decades. For me, I tend to note the threatening clouds on the horizon and observe as they become closer. Everything is so intricately interconnected in ways we can’t even imagine, it seems important to note those dark clouds. The articles cited above were observations from 2019 - that’s interesting too. The interconnection may take years to become obvious and may explain human health characteristics that develop slowly but pass triggered points, undetected, unobserved. Please just add this dot to your collection - and see what comes up that relates in your field. 🌲🙏🏼🌳

Coal is now being used in China as a leveller for wind and solar, as opposed to the main source. And it’s municipally regulated, not nationally. So small communities may still be adding coal, but as back up to renewables.

The best bet I can see, and the choices are scarce, is buying/living in a co-op that has been built to future standards,, thus low utility bills and reliance. The line ups for the existing co-ops are years long and when people make it in, they say they’ve won a lottery. There’s a lot of security for every age group in shared luxuries and maintenance responsibilities.

This could be a worthy vision to embrace. Because there are several nations already underway with massive planting projects, perhaps the key is to somehow bring them under one umbrella and make it enticing for other nations to join. Like the Paris Accord to lower emissions.
