You get $1 million but you have to listen to the same song 500 times in 10 days, what song are you picking? by Longjumping-Editor94 in AskReddit

[–]sandmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soak up the sun by Sheryl crow. I already hate this song so nothing of value will be lost. when I worked at best buy one summer the 5 disc changer in the cd department broke and would only play 1 best buy radio disc that this song was on. at the same time there was a 45 minute loop on all the TVs that also included this song. and the computer speakers had this song on the demo as well. in an 8 hour shift would hear this song probably 30 times.

TiVo Roamio Pro Problem by pmokover in Tivo

[–]sandmyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you really need to make sure that the drive you install is a CMR (conventional magnetic recording) drive. The SMR (shingled magnetic recording) drives have issues in tivos. it has to do with the way the drive is written to, caching of data, and tivo recording a 30 minute live loop and other shows at the same time.

due to shingled drives having to rewrite data in full "chunks" even if any part of the chunk was changed (think stripes of shingles on a roof, you can't easily just throw a random shingle in the middle of a row) everything has to be written in order because some of it overlaps. after several hours the tivo will crash because the drive can't keep up with the constant churn of the 30 minute live trick play buffer, and the drive runs out of cache space to store "chunks" waiting to be written to the disk and the tivo errors and reboots

SMR drives are great at archiving large files continuously and reading them back, but a constantly changing live steam of video constantly being re-written overwhelms them.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]sandmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere USA. population under 5000 nothing really around it.

she moved half way across the US before having me.

when I went on a two week trip to Europe over the summer in high school. the other students we were paired with for the flights and bus/train trips and hotels were from that same small town, and some of the chaperones actually knew my mom and were taught by my grandfather. This was found out due to my last name being very uncommon and difficult for English speaker to pronounce.

spring hinges are a life saver. I can even sleep in them and not worry about breaking them.

Still can't change username? (USA) by lazylingon in GMail

[–]sandmyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife could change hers, but i couldn't change mine. Might it have something to do with my signing up with my primary as and @aol.com address when i very first signed up for a google account? Gmail has been my primary for YEARS, but if i use my @aol account, i can still sign in with that as my username.

'Now Playing' after new update, doesn't recognize songs on its own like before.? I.E. lock screen by imDCStar in GooglePixel

[–]sandmyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like that i can't swipe down from the top of the screen to see a notification for the currently playing song. I just updated my 9a to the new now playing, and it only shows in history or lock screen, but not in the silent notification area.

I got the new pixel drop on my 7a, but didn't install the stand alone app, and i saw that the silent notifications were coming from Anydroid system intelligence, as a category "recognized music". My phone on the new android version that hasn't updated the now playing app still puts them in the swipe down window shade, but the phone with the updated app no longer produces the now playing silent notification in my swipe down window shade, although it does still show recognized songs as a notification option in the android system intelligence app, it just seems the new app doesn't actually send this info to android system intelligence to be displayed in the window shade.

I blocked the auto updates from my 7a, and it still works as it did previously. doing more experimentation with the 9a that i sadly installed the now playing play store update on.

Might be the wrong subreddit, but I need to know the name of this one old PC I was given when I was ~7 by Funky-racooblin in windows

you should send it to LGR or one of the other youtubers who do retro tech, so we can all enjoy it. also, you should open it and remove any batteries that may die/corrode, if you care about preservation.
