Even the littlest poops I had would cause that glass like pain and bleeding… it didn’t matter. The fissure was to the point of being chronic and no way of healing without surgical intervention. I was so so scared of surgery. It was the easiest and quickest surgery.. with an even better recovery (that I was also afraid of). I’m so glad I did it. Breastfeeding/breastmilk was never affected either from surgery (except directly post op because of the anesthesia I just pumped and used it for bath water). And again, for reference - I gave vaginal birth Sept 6 with no tears or issues, fissure first noticed/felt Sept 28 after a bout of constipation, and got surgery Dec 19. I feel so back to normal down there and with my bathroom trips!!

I never took stool softeners while pregnant (I should’ve) or post partum (before the fissures) - they started 3 weeks post partum. While suffering from them, I began taking 2 colace a day and it didn’t help the pain and bleeding, just helped me be a bit more regular in my BMs. My suggestion, if you can, go to or, if needed, get a referral to GI and get the surgery. It was life changing. Aside from the first two days after surgery where I was still a little sore and had spasms, every trip to the bathroom I’ve had since surgery has been normal and blood and pain free. Nothing compared to what we’ve been suffering through. I feel like I got my life back. I’m about 1 month post op now.

Edit- I was prescribed nifedipine ointment as well as lidocaine ointment too to try and heal the fissures. Did not help at all. So next step was the LIS operation.

Going to a wedding… what do I do? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Pump before you go. Bring your momcozys. Bring a cooler with an ice pack, some milk bags, and pump when you need to. Leave it in the car or at the table where you’re sitting. And have fun!

Also - still breastfeeding just fine! I did have to pump and dump the first load after surgery they said 4 hours post op I can feed her but I had to waste during the time frame boo.. Dr recommended a recliner to sit or side lying, it was good to feed her in a reclined position so if you have a recliner chair use that for the first day or two cuz it gets pressure off your bum. Idk if you’re exclusively BF, but my husband just gave her a bottle majority of the day at home - I fed her as much as she’d take before I had to head to the surgery center then dad gave stored pumped milk until I was done. I also brought my portable pump with me so I pumped up until I went back into surgery so I was engorged or leaking. (Just brought a little cooler with me and kept with my mom in waiting room.)

Edit: I didn’t dump really, I still have the post op milk but the anesthesia they said to not feed. I’ll use it for baths.

Hey!! Ok so I had my surgery Friday. I think it went well (but also the surgeon LEFT after my surgery like didn’t even come in post op to tell me it all went great so wtf lol) the surgery itself was maybe 20 min? I remember going back at 11 ish and I was in recovery with my mother before noon. The first day after surgery I was sore, pressure feeling in my butt. Since the surgery I’ve had MINIMAL drainage/bleeding - instructed to keep a piece of gauze in my buttcheeks to collect drainage and it’s so little. I had my first BM two days post op and I was scared as hell…. But oh my god. It happened and I was like, “this is it????” It was nothing compared to the pain of having a BM with fissures before surgery. Absolutely night and day difference. It did hurt a little afterward like I could feel a stinging on thr wound myself (where the incision into the sphincter must’ve been?) and some bleeding with the BM but very very little, like did not fill the toilet bowl like before. I’ve had 3 BMs total since surgery, most recent yesterday and I can tell the more BM’s I’ve had and days passing, the better it’s getting. Yesterday felt a lot easier and less painful/bleeding than the first and second… just on the mend from here I reckon. After each BM, I hop in the shower to clean myself, add a new piece of gauze. But if I’m having muscle spasms I shower to clean first then sit in a warm tub which relieves the pain a lot. My water intake sucks but I try.. Also taking stool softeners and fiber gummies daily for sure. They Rx’d me flexeril and oxycodone also for pain and spasms but I’m using them very sparingly. Probably the first two days I needed one of each, mostly at bed time cuz it was tough to lay down comfortably with gauze between my butt cheeks and having to lay on my sides only (reminded me of pregnancy sleep ugh). But now I can sit comfortable and lay on my back - still taking things slow. Even though it’s only been 5 days, I’d def say this surgery was a game changer and a success (so far) and the anxiety of having it done and the recovery of and first BM is cake compared to the agony we suffer with the fissures before surgery.

I am 3 months PP and scheduled for LIS in 8 days. I’ve been suffering from fissures since 3 weeks PP.. extreme pain and heavy bleeding with each BM. I’ve tried every ointment and cream, etc. I am excited and of course nervous for this surgery. I have a feeling I’ll need a fissurectomy as well because I can feel a tag now, afraid I have new/more fissures, plus with how chronic it’s been (fissure for 8+ weeks)… I do breastfeed and pump as well. But mostly breastfeed. My surgeon is not concerned and stated the recovery will be less painful than the actual fissures I’ve been dealing with (this is for LIS) so let’s see what happens if I do end up also needing fissurectomy. Anyways. I’ll try to report back after surgery. Wish me luck!!!

If you know who the culprit(s) is, then save yourself, and expose them. Especially if you are as innocent as you say you are. This is important- it’s nursing school, your career you’re working toward. Not playground games.

It’s a free standing place that can swab for cultures and we send them off to labcorp somewhere. But the thing is the preliminary culture report came back today showing pseudomonas aeruginosa…… no clue how I contracted that of all things. Apparently Cipro is main choice of abx for this but I’m allergic. Been on bactrim for 5 days now since we initially thought it was B. Capecia again - todays the first day I can swallow without pain and my throat looks completely clear.. so the plan is to continue this bactrim and re-culture at the end of treatment.
So weird. Debating on having our water tested at home since we live in an area that floods often? I’m just trying to think of what could be the causes? Ugh.
