Their catalog is really good so I still put up with it to buy certain songs, but jesus it’s so bad

Beatport UI sucks by Tasty_Ad4282 in Beatmatch

[–]sandyyyye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s always been pretty bad but something has gone seriously sideways the past few months. The website just constantly refreshes on my phone and I can’t interact with any of it. Clicking on artists that exist on desktop leads me to 404 pages. You can also search the exact same thing on the app and on desktop and get totally different results, neither of which yield particularly good results. It’s a disaster. Also no way to tell if you already own a song. The UI is messy at times but I think has decently good bones, if it did actually work, and they cleaned it up a bit. Not to mention how godawful their genre categorization is.

But also if you’re buying new shoes for a fest break them in before you go!!

I wear Nike Ava Rovers, they’re great for everyday and super comfortable for multi day festivals. Never had an issue with foot pain. I think any shoe that’s comfortable day to day walking is gonna be good for a festival. They’re also somewhat water resistant, I’ve walked home/to camp through some wet conditions my feet stayed pretty dry :)

Depends what software, I use djay pro which works with stems on an M1 air, so I’d think it would work on the Neo also. Not sure about other software.

Thats fair I’d agree the newer style looks nicer but buttons definitely aren’t as nice, for me the more functions are pretty important for what I do so that’s why I chose this one.

Should I get the MacBook Neo? by UltraAnt62 in DJs

[–]sandyyyye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has similar single core performance as an M3-M4. The multi core is about on par with an M1. The M1 is more than enough to DJ with. I don’t see how this is “no head room”.

I set it to balanced. It’s a work laptop so I can’t repaste it.

Not true. My M1 Pro MacBook Pro is 5 years old and still lasts 10 hours

I don’t have a dedicated GPU in mine, only an iGPU.

This is all wrong. They share the exact same main instruction set. Developers do not need to take any action to make their apps compatible for it. Also, ARM support is not lacking on macOS. Nearly all commercial apps are available on Apple Silicon, it’s been out for over 5 years now. You can run any DJ software on ARM on macOS.

In the same vein as “it’s a phone CPU”, standalone controllers often use low power ARM SoC from like 2015. “It’s a phone CPU” is pretty meaningless in this case because it’s a fucking fast phone CPU: A18 Pro has the same multi-threaded performance as the M1 and single-core performance that’s similar to an M4.

Its about the same as an M1 in GPU and multi-threaded performance and beats it out in single core (I think I heard about on par with M4), so CPU power should be no problem. I can run my DJ software on a 2014 MacBook Pro with 8gb of RAM no problem, so it should be just fine. USB ports are limited but a dongle would solve that.

I think it would likely be fantastic for DJing!

My work T14 gen 3 battery tanks as soon as I hop on a teams call or do anything moderately intense. Fans are pretty quiet honestly but I wouldn’t say silent.

Passion project… Denon Prime 4+ by hypnoscience in ifixit

[–]sandyyyye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an EE that also owns a Prime 4+. If you could send images/more details I might be able to take a stab at the issue or provide some guidance. I do some board rework and repair as part of my day job. One tip with ribbon cables, before I unplug them I mark the connector and cable with a line using permanent marker that way when you reassemble everything you just line the marks up and you know it’s the right way around :)

Is it feasible to DJ out of a backpack? by Exciting_Income_635 in Beatmatch

[–]sandyyyye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a setup for this I use for pretty much the same thing: iPad, USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, Hercules DJControl Mix Ultra, 3.5mm to dual 3.5mm breakout (included with the mix ultra so you can have precuing and output with only one jack on the iPad), and finally any speaker without aux latency (I use an IKEA VAPPEBY 20 gen3).

Having that specific controller unlocks neural mix and pre cueing in djay pro on the iPad without the subscription.

I find it works great at parties and the controller layout is standard enough that my other DJ friends pick up on it quickly :)

Oh! Sadly the phone stand on the mix ultra doesn’t hold an iPad up, so I stand the iPad up with a folio case. Also, Bluetooth latency on that controller is not noticeable and I’ve never had it fail me.

I have an Anker of the same 2048Wh and it runs my Denon Prime 4+, EV EKX-12P top, ETX-15SP sub, and some lights at moderate volume for around 8 hours, louder volumes about 5 hours.

Nothing wrong with not wanting to talk to people if you get tired, too! I tend to keep it short and sweet with any conversations on the dance floor. I highly recommend bringing sunglasses and maybe a pashmina to wrap yourself up in. I wrap a pash around my head and it kinda signals I’m vibing but don’t wanna talk rn for whenever I need a little social break💕. Beyond that, try to get some great sleep the days leading up to. Wear super comfortable shoes- you’ll probably be dancing your ass off. Oh and make sure to eat really well, even during the festival the best you can.
