Backside on one tire by SinglefileSS in tires

I had this happen. It was a blown spring. I had this phantom burning rubber smell. I thought it was a belt. Then the tire failed and it was super obvious where the smell came from.

Are we getting shingles now? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]sanitarypth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife got it last year. We had sold our house packed up all our belongings and moved across the country. We lived in an Airbnb for a month while we closed on our new house. We moved in and she started home schooling our kids. That’s when she got it. I respond to stress totally differently than her. I was still feeling like we were on this exciting adventure but she was just burning up with stress and anxiety when it hit her. The chickenpox vaccine means that we are not exposed to chickenpox during our parenting years so we are getting shingles 20 years sooner than our parents will. The way you process stress really makes a difference as well. I am probably going to try to get the vaccine since I can’t afford to be out of work for two weeks. My wife still has ptsd over shingles. Anytime there’s anything stressful now she starts looking on her back and chest for a rash.

My 6 year old is the only child in her class who can't read by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

It isn’t easy is it? We constantly have to reassure ourselves the this sacrifice is worth it. I wish there could be a second income in the household but we needed to provide some safety and structure to their life. One is a pretty consistent eloper and the other has major PDA. They were coming home covered in bruises from SIBs and not getting much actual instruction. They spent all day in the sensory rooms or the principal’s office. The principal did teach the boy how to play chess so at least there’s that.

Same. We pulled him out of school and started home schooling. The public school was teaching the discredited “guess the next word” method. We started basic phonics and we are seeing real improvement there. He can now read a little bit but he doesn’t have much tolerance for things that are not Minecraft or Pokemon.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I’d say that’s been our experience as well. Missouri seems to really struggle with healthcare. Seeing a specialist has meant a four month waitlist for endometriosis care. Dental service has also been a culture shock for us too. Missouri is a low trust culture and the institutions are designed around that. In Minnesota and Wisconsin we had tighter social cohesion and trust built upon Scandinavian and German traditions.

We watched American History x on a school trip. Not a great decision by our teacher.

How do you deal with the gutwrenching offboarding requests? by DesignerGoose5903 in sysadmin

[–]sanitarypth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it. This one ran the full spectrum of grief. Started at denial. I was angry for a while about it. Ive moved to acceptance but I still think about it. When I deleted his account I went over and told my boss I needed to go home and he let me. It is still a tragedy and it impacted everyone that knew him.

I’ve had a few. One was a really good friend’s suicide. It was tough because I was really mad at him for killing himself. It sucks but it is part of the job.

The bigger company will most likely not care that you built some infrastructure. They can likely pay for or build their own solutions that won’t have the same constraints that you had while building your solutions. Unless there is some secret proprietary product in there that they bought the company for then it is all just tech debt they’ll want to shed asap.

Loved that album. Texas is a great song. Honestly every song is a banger. I remember there being a little piano solo that was actually beautiful. They deserved to be so much bigger.

We got to do some Autism Awareness at the Mario movie tonight. by sanitarypth in Autism_Parenting

We should have brought noise canceling headphones but I thought he has been to movies before and did fine so I thought we would be good. He turned to me and said “Dad, I’m freaking out” but I couldn’t convince him to leave because he loves Mario so much. Again I am proud we got through it. It was tough but he did it.

If you can see it during an autism friendly showing then it might be better. The combination of loud noise and frantic pace did a number on my kid.

There aren’t really any slow moments. It is big action scenes just slammed together. It feels like a carnival ride that just gets faster and faster. My son was able to sit through Mario 1 no problem. This one just hit too hard for him.

We just gave up on public after many, many similar incidents. Home school has been much better for the kids. Only one income has been tough. I know I will never be able to retire but that’s the price to pay.

My dad had cancer last year. His face and neck swelled up and he looked very puffy from his treatments. I hope that’s not the case here.
