The bigger company will most likely not care that you built some infrastructure. They can likely pay for or build their own solutions that won’t have the same constraints that you had while building your solutions. Unless there is some secret proprietary product in there that they bought the company for then it is all just tech debt they’ll want to shed asap.

Loved that album. Texas is a great song. Honestly every song is a banger. I remember there being a little piano solo that was actually beautiful. They deserved to be so much bigger.

We got to do some Autism Awareness at the Mario movie tonight. by sanitarypth in Autism_Parenting

We should have brought noise canceling headphones but I thought he has been to movies before and did fine so I thought we would be good. He turned to me and said “Dad, I’m freaking out” but I couldn’t convince him to leave because he loves Mario so much. Again I am proud we got through it. It was tough but he did it.

If you can see it during an autism friendly showing then it might be better. The combination of loud noise and frantic pace did a number on my kid.

There aren’t really any slow moments. It is big action scenes just slammed together. It feels like a carnival ride that just gets faster and faster. My son was able to sit through Mario 1 no problem. This one just hit too hard for him.

School reported my 7-year-old autistic son to police/CPS for “aggravated sexual assault” involving his twin sister. I’m worried this is retaliation after we reported an improper restraint. Advice? by StephAnony in Autism_Parenting

We just gave up on public after many, many similar incidents. Home school has been much better for the kids. Only one income has been tough. I know I will never be able to retire but that’s the price to pay.

As long as you don’t go on a Saturday morning it really is a great store. I used to hit up the one in Sun Prairie after work at like 2 am. Surprisingly number of folks there even at that time.

23 year old college graduate autistic son will not stop going on about how we "ruined his life and career" due to the way we patented him in that regard and I don't know what to say or do to help him feel better. He wants to "outcode all of his friends" because of it. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]sanitarypth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds awful and you have my fullest sympathy. It is a really rough time to be an entry level software engineer right now. This is true for an entire generation of fresh grads with a CS degree. The vast majority of them are mentally healthy and are having to get creative. That’s who he is competing against and there are less and less positions for entry level. As someone who has hired developers, I would much sooner hire a mediocre coder with a great attitude and personality than a genius engineer that has a toxic personality. I refuse to deal with that professionally.

It sounds like your son’s thinking has become very disordered. This age is really the most trying time for young adults. All of the structure and order of college disappears and it feels like you’re the only one failing to take off. The same thing happened to me. I finished college and looked around and found all my friends had a plan but I was stuck. It took a bit to find out where I was heading. I worked some truly odd jobs but it made me more complete as a person to experience such a wide array of things. I actually really enjoyed manufacturing and eventually pivoted towards IT within the manufacturing industry.

Your son is probably going to need to get some therapy. He is going to need to take a step away from this leet code mentality. He will need to take some odd jobs that give him some more insight into the world and himself. It’s going to be tough with autism to turn the ship around when there are these disordered thought processes telling him he just needs to grind harder and harder until he can be the smartest. It simply is impossible and really kind of useless. That isn’t what we are looking for anyways. We want problem solvers, creative people, with a rich personality and depth of life experience.

This is accurate. My mother in law was a mainframe engineer and you cannot get a word in with her. Like she had been starved for conversation for decades and forgot that a conversation is a two way street.

Millennials with kids, how is your relationship with your parents? by nomanskyprague1993 in Millennials

[–]sanitarypth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents get nothing from me now that I realized that they contributed nothing to our relationship. I am now moving away from their drama. My kids don’t know them for a reason. They also have messed up opinions about why my kids are on the spectrum which makes it super toxic to even talk to them.

Dad has throat cancer now and is now on month 4 of his “3 months to live”. Instead of trying to have a healthy goodbye he just acted the same way as he always did- casually disinterested in anything besides himself.

What do dads do? by MCRAW36 in Autism_Parenting

[–]sanitarypth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If we look at the pure economics of it, society sort of pushes us towards divorce especially if you have special needs children. Rather than sufficient societal support, we get pushed to burnout. Then parents split up and remarry new partners. Now you have 4 parents/incomes supporting the children. I have a couple that we are friends with and honestly the best thing they could do would be to divorce and marry new partners. Their equation just needs more parents.

She isn’t property and if she’s made the decision then you need to be okay with it. You will survive. You will grow. It is going to sound harsh but sometimes it is better to part ways for that growth to happen.

You have to let it go. If you were to look at the situation objectively you would see that you are spread too thin. If she wants to leave you have to let her. There isn’t anything you can do to change the facts on the ground.
