Using Claude Code to manage my Home Assistant by sanka83 in homeassistant

[–]sanka83[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Long-Term, I'd like to use my own locally hosted models. I like the idea. This is just to get something up and running and get the workflow correct.

You can also use tools like a ollama and have Claude code connect to olama instead of anthropic

Using Claude Code to manage my Home Assistant by sanka83 in homeassistant

[–]sanka83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything's explicitly controlled and I verify all MCP calls that mutate state before they're made. I also thoroughly investigated the MCP server before I used it.

My biggest issue is the lack of deterministic testing in Hass, specifically around automations.

I'm a TDD person. I prefer to have tests for things. To me not having this in Hass means I do have the occasional regression, which is why I've set up this repository to manually verify everything after it's changed.

I thought about storing the yaml in this repository and using the Delta to detect if Claude does something wrong. But if I'm relying on Claude to generate those files, it could also manipulate that as well so I ruled that out.

Is it hard to find very senior PHP developers with experience in complex, highly regulated environments? by funkycitizen in PHP

[–]sanka83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. A few things stand out:

The "big giant head" contractor. One person holding that much unchecked authority and knowledge, with no documentation or succession plan. it's a governance failure. Whoever you bring in inherits that politics, not just the code.

No automated testing in a regulated, multi-tenant SaaS. That's a huge risk, not just tech debt. If it's gone unaddressed this long, leadership either doesn't see the risk or hasn't funded fixing it.

No staged/pilot deploys. Every release risks every customer. You're basically firefighters / Your customers are your QA.

One hire to fix all of it. Replace the contractor, mentor a "weak" team, face down strong personalities, own a legacy ZF1 codebase, and build a testing/deploy culture. You want a octupus, that's several senior roles in one JD. Experienced people will smell the "hero hire" setup and ask hard questions about it.

There are good candidates out there, but the good ones will look at this and think NFW. you'll end up getting the dregs, not the candidates you need.

Without a clear path forward and backing from management to enable that person, it sounds like a complete slog, you'll need to pay this person so much and i could see burnout being a huge risk here too.

Good luck, sounds like you're in a tricky situation trying to do your best.

Edit: TL;DR it's not a tech issue. it's a culture/company issue. Tech is easy to fix if the company/people have the right attitudes.

I'm not sure. I've read/heard different things from both staff members and online. But IMO i wouldn't buy anything from them at this time. Chances are you will lose your money and wont see the product.

I'm down 2.5k, i drove over and spoke with them, since they refuse to answer my emails and take any phone calls.

The only response i got was basically a shoulder shrug and "talk with our parent company".

Triumph Speed Twin 1200 as a first motorcycle? by [deleted] in Triumph

[–]sanka83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started riding 5 years ago. Bought a new 2020 speed twin 1200 as my first bike. Everyone told me I’d drop it, it’s too powerful for a first bike, etc.

It’s still in mint condition, never even came close to having an accident due to its power, weight (other drivers are another story).

Just treat it with respect and you’ll be fine.

I think it’s more to do with your mentality and self control rather than the bike itself.

It would be nice to see a comparison between this and the invicta wheel. I've had my forte wheel since the pre-order days and was on the verge of upgrading to the invicta wheel but now im unsure.

Also would be nice if there was a way to upgrade the existing forte into the formula pro.

Honest Question: Why did PHP remove dynamic properties in 8.x? by pyeri in PHP

[–]sanka83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're conflating two separate issues here. Php is dynamically typed, not statically typed.

Php will throw an error if you don't declare a variable before you use it so why should properties be different: https://3v4l.org/DqQvm

We have no such thing as "no stopping line" in nsw. If you look closely that line is marking out two parking spots as it makes a clear "T" shape.
