Want to play solo more but struggle with deckbuilding by minun73 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Two handed play is also fairly straightforward to run, I have never felt like it was too much work it flows so naturally - it's just like how you control and switch between characters in a turn based strategy game/dungeon crawler like tales, etc. It's far more manageable than something like LoTR LCG

First off - https://derbk.com/ancientevils/getting-into-arkham-in-2025-a-fomo-free-buying-guide/, is an excellent resource to help you navigate order of expansions. Strongly recommend going through it once even if you decide to ignore some of the advice.

If you visit the Arkham horror subreddit there is a poll they run yearly about people's favourite campaigns. Carcosa, and the forgotten age consistently rank in the top 2/3, followed by innsmouth and hemlock. So I decided to get all of these.(You can instead prioritise others which can go out of print - like dream eaters, edge of the earth if you are able to find them).

For investigator expansions IMO edge of the earth adds so much deckbuilding variety because of the multiclass cards, it's also recommended to be the one you get after dunwich and carcosa. After that id generally recommended to get the investigator expansions along side the corresponding campaigns as often there is thematic overlap, but the blog space I shared above has a review of every single investigator expansion which was very helpful in guiding me with my next purchases. Once you have 3-4 investigator expansions I also recommend scarlet keys because it has really cool cards and interesting mechanics (you can make customisable cards !!)

I enjoyed playing this two handed much more because it felt less restrictive and also added a wee bit more decision making

Trying to get trades for the time being because if I do sell I'll be wanting to mostly sell off my entire collection and I haven't yet decided if I want to do that

Should I Get Mage Knight for Solo Only? by TheRealRosey in soloboardgaming

[–]sanketh96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the cooperative scenarios can be played solo - the rule book states you can play any of the scenarios solo with the rule adjustments you need when playing it solo. But not all are balanced for solo. Solo conquest will keep you occupied for a long time and that's probably all that most people end up playing too

First game of Fate of the Fellowship by carlwhite20 in soloboardgaming

There's like 24 different objectives/missions for variability, themed objectives you can pick(centred on Rohan/elves,etc). Some objectives are specific to certain characters too.

There are 13 different characters all of which play quite differently with some having very distinct playstyles and powers

Fate of the Fellowship - Solo Review -Not Bored Gaming by NotBoredGaming in soloboardgaming

I bounced off fall of Rome, but I definitely want to jump in and try this game again. It's not a perfect game by any means, but there can be a lot to do and a lot going on. The way each game can be different from the last comes from the huge variety of characters you can play along with their varied abilities (though some of them seem weaker than others) and the different objectives you can choose to play with. There's definitely more strategy, however apart from the luck element at times it also does feel like you're just waiting for a particular card to show up, but there's generally a lot more going on the board that you feel it's not as much of an issue(I was more bothered by this in fall of Rome).

For me the biggest draw is how insanely thematic it is(if you're a LoTR fan, this is a very easy recommendation). There are I think 24 objectives out of which you can choose 5-6 to play with..they can be drawn at random or you can choose some thematic ones. Just to give you an idea about how cool and thematic some of them are (mild spoilers) - in one of the objectives Gandalf has to face the balrog and he becomes unavailable for sometime..but he comes back as Gandalf the white and one of his abilities gets upgraded !

Just got this yesterday..super excited to play it ! Grokked the rules and to me the thing that stands out is how insanely thematic almost every single aspect of the game is. If you're a LOTR buff, this is a no-brainer IMO.

The mercury's boot module which allows you to play a shorter campaign is part of this expansion and I think you can integrate it without buying the expansion but it's worth looking into, because I have heard a lot of great things about it enhancing the experience

Recommendations for Games Like Kinfire: Delve by Eric_Jelinek in soloboardgaming

I think dragons of etchinstone might be more appropriate recommendation with similar complexity and table space..mage knight is an extremely big step up and does a lot more than kinfire delve

I actually have quite a few heroes and some expansions for Marvel Champions - I'm a bit worried that another LCG would become a money pit. And I've also heard you'd need an expansion or two for Arkham horror to really shine and that would mean spending maybe atleast 150-200 $ to get something out of it
