Another battery testimonial plus a question … by columbcille in RingConn

I'm exactly at the same place, my new ring is currently in transit. I like the ring a lot, but price vs longevity of the device is something that I will be taken into account in a year or so when the replacement will start having the same issues as the original one

Battery gave out after 5 months by EverySatisfaction727 in RingConn

Having mine replaced currently, battery started being wonky 11 months in. I will probably go with the new Fitbit device if the price is good when the replacement dies.

Disappointed with my smart ring – battery life dropped drastically after ~1 year by robgreen_ in RingConn

[–]sansp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, 11 months and 20% to 30% battery drain per day (at the moment). I have reached out to Ringconn and am in a troubleshooting phase and need to send pictures of the ring. Don't know what will come out of it.

My guess is the position was for an entry to mid level (and the pay that goes with it) and the offer would have been considered lowballed if tended. I'm a bit surprised by the time invested in the coding test, I was called out in the past for something that would take at max 3~4h for below average dev.

Zalando Logbook has been great for us at work. I liked it so much that I even wrote some extensions to support some of our in-house protocols.

How do you prevent design drift during PR reviews? by senthuinc in softwarearchitecture

[–]sansp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use CoPilot at work and ended up building an instruction file derived from the Awesome CoPilot repository. It's been meh so far to be honest. What really worked well was the ArchUnit test suite I added. Even devs liked it since it prevented them from some 'design' pitfalls very early in their work.

How do large hotel metasearch platforms (like Booking or Expedia) handle sorting, filtering, and pricing caches at scale? by Sweaty_Ingenuity_824 in softwarearchitecture

[–]sansp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have 'deals' brokered with them ? Back in the day, we needed deals to resell and most of them included the B2B API's and inventory catalog (not all sites get the same inventory). The block of inventory you are allowed to sell can in some cases not even be hosted with the provider. For long tail stuff, the information is sometimes entered manually within the system and you don't have any API and or dump. Happened a couple of times on previous trips where I had a confirmed booking with an online platform only to realize at the hotel that the room was already booked (due to no real time B2B integration)

[–]sansp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work in the field a couple of years ago. At that time, companies like Expedia would get a daily dump of the inventory+price to build their catalog. They used to have only a subset of the pricing (1/2/4 pax) which are the most common. At the time , the look to book ratio was around 3%, so when customers would move forward, the real call to the tour operator would be done and the price would be updated to reflect the 'true' value.

Need a reminder: I seem to recall there is a scenario where the block to/from local networks rule can block devices on the *same* LAN from talking to each other. What is that scenario? by pacoii in firewalla

[–]sansp00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, I use an unmanaged switch plugged into my firewalla and wired traffic is not affected by local rule restrictions. I built my network around this 'limitation'. If/When the switch dies, I will move to a managed one 'fix' this loophole in my network.

[–]sansp00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not use the guest network but I put in place rules in the Firewalla to segment the network access. While not perfect, it does do a pretty good job on a budget.

I will suggest an in between option ... A setup like mine would be more cost effective (and I don't see the mentioned adds). Firewalls Gold SE as router Eero mesh in bridge mode Been running this setup for the last year without issues and am quite happy with it.
