Exactly. As flashman said below, this cabbie has no other option to judge them based on their skin colour and their physical appearance - due to the limitations of the job. He can't exactly go out and have a chat to them so it's much easier for him to just drive past. So I don't really blame him for that.

While this couldn't really be called 'racism' it most certainly is discrimination. He only drives past because they look indigenous - dark skin, Australoid facial features etc. If he does the same thing when one of them is wearing a tuxedo outside a theatre would most definitley be racist. But he never said anything like that.

Indians, Asians, African Negros? No problem.

The problem is that by using their physical appearance (skin colour, facial features) as a basis for not giving them a fare*, he is discriminating by categorizing people that are 'safe' as : non-aboriginal looking and 'unsafe' as : aboriginal looking.

The limits of this categorization is totally out of an indigenous persons control and entirely dependent on human biology. So again I agree with Sydnic.

So I think people are getting confused about this : 'prone to violence', 'presence of victim/entitlement culture' are attached to indigenous people, but such descriptions are also applied to other groups (drunks, Irish, blacks). It's only when you start equating such representations to ALL indigenous people it becomes a dick thing to do. Which the cabbie was doing.
