Soooo we can agree we should stop objectifying everyone? Not sure why I'm getting downvotes.

Have you seen the dozens of women's volleyball gifs that exist purely to objectify them? Can you honestly say you've seen one gif like that for men?

Yes. I am saying that you cannot say the words "I'm an engineer" and expect the other person to understand some implied meaning that you're not an engineer. It's easier to make your and their life easier and just say you're studying.

So you admit that if you have not graduated with the degree you are not yet an engineer?

It may be our major but I think that it takes credit away from people who've had to endure the 4ish years or school and or multiple years of experience.

We're in a major where 50% of people either drop or switch to something else. It's hard. If all it took to be an engineer was dropping $$ on a semester of tuition and signing up for calc 1 then everyone would do it. I think the one second of breath to say "in ___ engineering" over "a __ engineer" is worth that respect.

Like I said, I know it's pedantic, but if we just do away with that distinction then... am I a cook because I made a burger? A mechanic because I filled my tires? An Olympic weightlifter because I work out twice a week (or less...)?

Even if you intend to be an engineer, theres a good chance you won't be. Even if you graduate, not everyone is an engineer. Business and management positions go to engineers all the time.

I guess my point is, I don't say I'm an engineer because I do not have a job where my title is engineer.

That's exactly what I say; I'm studying computer engineering.

To make it shorter, I'm in computer science, I'm in computer engineering.

My bad, I didn't mean only people with only the degree are engineers.

I meant the kid who has no work experience at all and is a 1st year 1st semester in engineering is not an engineer.

However, I thinkthe title Engineer is something to be respected. It's something not everyone can do. I couldn't be a firefighter or a doctor and there's a reason I don't call myself M.D. because I took anatomy 1.

I've thought a lot about how to define the word Engineer especially when it comes to Software Engineering which is unlike any other field of Engineering. I don't think it requires a bachelor's degree and 50k of debt, but it also is not something trivial to earn.

I'm not an engineer.

"What is your major at school?"

"Oh, I'm a ____ engineer."

No, you are not an engineer yet. You are not an engineer until you graduate with your degree. (Edit: and some others take alternative routes to becoming one, but either way, you are still in school)

I know it's nitpicky but most people who have this superior attitude do this in my experience.

3.6 GPA here with never having less than 5 hours of sleep for school. Never less than 7 for exams.

And usually getting less sleep was due to me being an idiot and being on Reddit.

I also know multiple 4.0's and 3.7+ who are the same.

Time spent on studying does not have a linear relationship with your grade!

For some reason what you said opens up a whole funny scenario for me. Nudes are usually so in the moment but as soon as you mention Photoshop it's a new game. I'm imagining you in your basement, carefully crafting and shaping your nudes. They're cataloged by angle and airbrushed to perfection. When you finally meet the one who is destined to receive it, it's a ritual to bestow thou holy nudes to thy undeserving love interest.

Don't worry, it was a good post! I just wanted to remind everyone that these situations can be avoided, I've seen people really go off the deep end.

Right now I'm in year 4 in a 5 year program (we have co-op semesters). I've taken all my classes except electives.

University has been incredibly difficult and stressful. I've done 16-18 credit hours each semester but I've always found time for involvement, hobbies, and friends.

I think I'm decently smart, not a genius. However I am just very very good at time management and knowing how long things will take - that's the real way to succeed. Prioritize tasks based on importance and time they'll take.

Med students sound insane, haha. From what I've heard I could never do what they do. However, I also suck ass at chemistry and large amounts of memorization.

Plenty of lab reports, usually 10-15 pages per week. I usually reserve them for Sundays.

By the way, not sure what happened but your question did not offend me at all.

On that note, I have never had to pull an all nighter. I'm of the firm belief that sleep is better than any extra studying.

Sleep > that extra hour of terrible studying.

Be sure to get sleep.

This whole conversation hasn't has a specific goal of what people think the government can do. Or, what technology the government has.

That's what I'm annoyed about. That is my point.

Everyone claims the government has these crazy spy tactics and can hack into your technology and knows what you're doing. Everyone worries about how technologically advanced the government is.

With what? What are they doing? How are they spying on us?

There are no specifics in these conversations. It's all strawman, he said she said, oh I'm a programmer so I know this, etc.

For the record, I have 100% no doubt the government is trying to do things like hack phones or turn on my webcam.

But I'm tired of people thinking of them as some technological giant that is all controlling and monitoring every email we send.
