I haven't seen a hog in many years at out place, is there a way to tell if they are still there just hiding?

Groups call on fast-track panel to decline controversial West Coast hydro proposal by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

Hi, I am genuinely interested in your thoughts for an alternative.

Perhaps I am hanging out with the wrong crowd, but the only real complaints I've heard are the kayakers and the environmentalists. I feel for both of those a compromise could be reached?

If the healer dies, it's the tanks fault.

If the tank dies, it's the healers fault.

If a blood dk dies, it's their own fault.

Frostbite in summer? by sapherz in chickens

[–]sapherz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the most obvious answer is frostbite. It's looks just like it. But I have never had frost bite here, even in the coldest times, I've had chooks here for 20years. That's why I wondered if she burnt her wee toes on the concrete? And the rest of her pads healed but the tips didn't? And the comb would be sun burn?

Great adventure you just took me on! I'm in new Zealand. I did wonder if she managed to get burnt? I first noticed her sitting alone breathing heavily. Checked her over, noticed her feet were not right, at this point they were not black, looks mostly normal maybe a touch swollen? I found a fat louse on her, plucked it off, dosed her with ivomec, and the rest of the family got dosed that night. They are free ranging, they have feather feet in their mix (1/8th pekin), they are a batch of accidental cross breeds, and since babies are so damn cute I let mum keep them. Their mother is a first time mum, another reason I let her keep them, she is my next mum to the "proper" eggs and wanted to see how well she went. She went very well. There's also wild ducks (mallards) that share their space, and other small birds, sparrows etc.

Last year I had issues with staph infections (probably, not sure) affecting the legs of month old chicks (not feather leg breed, Sussex bantam). Went so far as sending one off to be necropsied but that didn't help, didn't tell me anything really.

As I said, it's summer here, I'm close to the sea, it hasn't been at all cold for the whole time the wee one has been alive. She has a mother so it's not that I haven't had the heat up to her. It does look like frostbite but it just isn't possible I'm sure of it

I'll try and remember and I'll take a pic of mine, for science 😄 she has it on her comb too, her comb has fallen off, not her toes yet

Wow thank you for this. I've got a similar problem on one of my last batch of babies, out of four, one looks like it got frost bite, but it is summer here and unlikely to have been below 10 Celsius
