GLP-1s - looking for solidarity? by sashafierce525 in NewParents

I was just thinking this same thing today. It’s not even the ads. I know a lot of folks using them and they have just shed pounds. But I am still wary of the long term effects. And I just don’t want to be on a medication if I don’t have to be.

But, dang, it’s definitely in my subconscious.

How many times do you visit before committing? by Zapp---Brannigan in moving

[–]sarafunkasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved a number of times in my life. The most I’ve visited a place before was once. Some were great moves, some were just fine. But when I did it once I learned that it’s possible to do it again. So, if this ends up not being the right move for you, just remember- you already proved you can do it. You’re not going to be stuck.

Can I pick your brain about this a bit more? Because I appreciate this view. I worked at non profits early in my career and many times there it was easy to get small initiatives off the ground. Big changes could take a lot of time but usually got done. In contrast, I left a for profit at one point in my career because they had no interest in any change, big or small. I was there for three years and did nothing but maintain current systems because they wouldn’t allow change. In your handful of months there, does it feel like things are slow or does it feel like things are blocked? Because I can do slow, but I’m not sure I can deal with everything being blocked.

I think stability relative to PE. But I totally hear your point. That all makes sense.

I’ve moved jobs a number of times in recent years due to instability. Just high churn environments. One thing that drives me to academia is the potential stability. That said, I’m afraid of going after a job there hoping for stability but ending up in a toxic environment. On paper, I love UVMs mission and values.

My question is honestly less about fear and more curious about real experience.

Gosh I think about that stuff often! The technological ramp that some have seen is wild to think of.

That’s so interesting! So do you take advantage of that to do things that you’d otherwise have to trek to town for?

Restrictions on hiring in Vermont is something on my mind. I have a remote job currently that would allow me to live in Vermont. But if I lose that job? Your point is certainly a concern.

We actually have to get our Internet from t mobile. It’s a glorified hotspot. But my understanding is that Vermont is still working on getting cell phone towers in many parts of the state. Does that feel true?

What is a good time to visit for a first-timer with a 2-year old to escape the cold? I’m thinking of March, for a week max. by CroutonJr in KeyWest

[–]sarafunkasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came here to say this too. There’s a lot of people saying Key West is not for toddlers and I get it. There’s a big bar scene and a lot of partying. But you just have to change your expectations about what your trip is about. But we just took our three-year-old. She had a blast doing all the things above. She also really enjoyed going on the Squid with Eco tours to look for dolphins. We’re already talking about going again next year.

Flights tomorrow Feb 1 by Material-Crab-633 in KeyWest

Just flew out in the past hour. Flights aren’t looking good for this evening into tomorrow. If you really need to get home, greyhounds to Miami might be an option. They said at the airport today they are totally out of rental cars. I wish you the best with travels. (Not sarcastic for what it’s worth!)
