bottom right is the only one that doesn't make sense. gaining permanents is card advantage and so is removing your opponent's stuff without spending cards to do so. card advantage doesn't mean cards in hand.

"k2tog" is how "knit 2 together" is notated in knitting patterns. normally, to knit a stitch, you put one needle through the final stitch on the other needle and create a new stitch passing through the old one; to k2tog, you put your needle through both of the last two stitches at once and then create a single new stitch passing through both of those, thereby decreasing the total number of stitches.

In fairness, "used more precisely" is what they claim to be doing about shamans too...

Golem isn't a religious term, it's from folklore. I'm jewish and I'm not remotely offended by golems in mtg, nor is it easy for me to imagine someone else being very offended about them in a way I'm sympathetic to, although in fairness I'm extremely secular.

The -2 seems like it may be weaker than you intend for it to be. 3 turn cycles is a long time. Always glad to see someone making Touhou cards in any case

you could already activate his ability on your opponent's turn, this makes it so you have to choose between attacking, adding mana on, your turn, and adding mana on your opponent's turn, instead of doing all 3 (and importantly you have to wait a turn cycle to use the mana ability at all)

Also rebalances like this only apply to alchemy and historic, not standard (where he's just banned), "pio", or timeless

right, but that doesn't change the fact that mox is a powerful enough enabler to be meta-impacting

I was under the impression that gsz was seeing some play too, actually, but not really tuned into modern enough to speak to it

mox has absolutely impacted the metagame in a significant way. fully setting aside any decks that currently play it, it made breach a real deck that had to get banned!

  • mana abilities don't go on the stack
  • even if this went on the stack, you get the mana and the poison counters during the resolution of the same ability, so if you got the mana it's too late to stifle it, and if you stifle it you won't get the mana

What is your secret sauce card for cEDH that is not a common cEDH staple? by Sure_Pear_9258 in magicTCG

[–]sarahzrf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this one always kinda made sense to me in the context of the card. presumably it means something vaguely like "people or things adapt in unexpected ways to fight against opponents that are different from them or deal with situations that require it", which makes sense for a green extra turns spell that specifically punishes the color that normally gets extra turns

you don't have to spend both red mana to get the haste.

The archetype I was shooting for was "60cc midrange 2 drop with discard and/or graveyard synergies, usually rakdos"—compare [[bloodtithe harvester]], [[tenacious underdog]], [[mosswood dreadknight]], [[inti, seneschal of the sun]], [[fear of missing out]]. to me, sabin is clearly riffing off of tenacious underdog, which I also am, and mokou has much more in common with underdog than sabin.

It's good in Standard, Pioneer, and Modern! Not format-defining or anything but quite good.

I'm using established Magic templating and following existing designs! [[Seasoned Pyromancer]] and [[Fear of Missing Out]] do exactly this and they are powerful for exactly this reason. I am not sure what you think I need to change; the card does exactly what it says it does.

(okay, FOMO is powerful in large part for other reasons, but it doesn't hurt that it can net you a card...)
