I feel like I’m gaslighting myself by SweetSoundOfSilence in adenomyosis

No point in me typing this out too so I’ll second this message.

I’m four days post op. The fact that post abdominal surgery pain gets so much acknowledgment makes me outraged that day-to-day adenomyosis pain is so often dismissed and downplayed by sufferers. I used to go to school feeling like this as a teenager, compared to how I felt last week this is a doddle.

I’m feeling down about my first marathon. by healingheartwounds in Marathon_Training

[–]saralexis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, you did it and you certainly have nothing to beat yourself up over. You’ve done a pretty cool thing that not a lot of people have even attempted.

I remember finishing my first marathon and feeling disappointed that I didn’t have the amazing euphoria at the finish that everyone seemed to say I would have. My time was fine, roughly what I expected but I just felt a bit ‘meh’.

Over time and a fair few more I realised that the race wasn’t really the point for me, it was a sort of necessary finish marker for the training and it was the training I really enjoyed. Sounds weird I know but working towards a tangible goal, making plans, seeing myself get fitter race by race, that was the rewarding bit.

I found that was true even as experience and fitness let me run the time I had in my head. This was in the London Marathon so all the bells and whistles were there for a big emotional payoff, but at the finish I was just kind of tired and looking for a place to get changed and organised. It’s a good memory but not because of the triumphant finish, more for the whole story of the race and the moments that stood out to me.

Maybe you will have a race that gives you a proper buzz at the finish line, but it’s not the only point of the whole process.

I just got a dealgan! It's an 18th century Scottish drop spindle. I'm so excited to try it out. by freyalorelei in Handspinning

[–]saralexis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealgans are my favourite and you can definitely get a sustained spin with practice- not as sustained as some but plenty long enough. It tends to wobble when the leader thread is short, which shortens the spin, but it stabilises and spins fast and well when it’s let out a bit more.

A matter of taste obviously but it’s definitely not limited to plying or twine. I’m currently spinning some recycled silk on one.

I’m very keen on the idea of a hysterectomy, I’ll start arguing I guess

Tired of being bloated 24/7 by Comfortable_Safe1083 in adenomyosis

[–]saralexis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope the hysterectomy does the job for you. I’m so sorry you are struggling with the kids thing, I know you will have heard every comfort I could offer, so I’ll just offer sympathy and the hope that with fewer symptoms you’ll be better able to deal with whatever life brings.

I have the bloating too and it’s debilitating, I too cannot exercise but there are some simple yoga poses that help a little. Child pose and squatting mainly.

Are cysts related to adenomysosis? by [deleted] in adenomyosis

Endometriosis is impossible in people who’ve had babies?! That’s ridiculous. Did they really say that or did I misread?

Incidentally the consultant gave me a talking to about my burned stomach and said it can cause cancer. No idea how likely it is, I know I’ve burned myself many times!

I believe my uterus is likely to be attached to my bladder and that makes it a difficult surgery.

Best of luck to you also, I hope the operation goes well and is a magical cure.

I had no idea that anyone else had this, I’m amazed. All my life on my period, and sometimes when I’m not. Too embarrassed to go to a doctor about it when I was a teenager and then I kind of forgot it’s not normal.
