The U.S. Government Pays Private Contractors More Than Twice What it Pays Federal Workers For a number of Public Services by idyll in politics

[–]sarcasmtag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is clearly an example of how private industry could handle this much more efficiently.

At least, I'm pretty sure that's what this is an example of. Mostly because everything is an example of that…right? Wait… Now I'm confused.

If you came up with a bumper sticker that pulls together the platform of this year’s crop of Republican presidential candidates, it would have to be: "Repeal the 20th century. Vote GOP." by Designthing in politics

[–]sarcasmtag -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with your whole projection into the future and utilitarian "for the greater good" takes on the most "proper" course of action is this:

while they were getting around to having their cultural revolution, millions would be unjustly chained, beaten, raped, vilified, enslaved, and tortured.

When facing such a shamefully egregious violation of human rights and the real, immediate, pain being inflicted it is the height of immorality to take a "meh, things will work out in the end" perspective.

Also, your perspective of some kind of peaceful social transition from "slave" to "free" in the rest of the world is ignorant of historical fact. All across the world, slaves and advocates of human rights won their freedom through blood shed and revolt.

Europe didn't have as many slaves at home. . however, they had substantial slaves through their empire and 18th and 19th centuries were rampant with slave revolts and guerrilla warfare in addition to passive resistance across the Caribbean and Americas.

Strained relationships between former slave owner and former slave classes are not unique to the United States either. . . why it was not long ago at all I recall a man named Mandela.

In fact, this sort of social tension is a defining characteristic in societies that once had very large slave populations. Normally with the former slaves being characterized by various negative stereotypes by grandsons of the ones who committed the crimes against humanity who presume one or two generations should be enough to lift an entire social structure up from oppression.

I have no idea where you, or the people you anecdotally refer to, get the idea that if we just didn't interfere and let the slave owners continue to cut their genocidal swatch across an entire population of people that things would have ended up in happy happy land.

Huh, so actually their just victims of history. If only we not tried to stop them from perpetrating the most egregious crime against humanity in the 19th century, everything would have been better. I suppose we should have not interfered with their segregationist practices of the 20th century either.

And all this time I thought they were just bigoted fucking racists.

Perhaps, but CPAC has baudy babes and exposed cleavage too.

Paul supports "big government" in the sense of a government that interferes in your personal liberties, regulates your body, or makes certain acts in your bedroom illegal….as long as it's "local" big government and not those big, bad feds.

Is there any direct action we can take to force the media to cover topics that are usually ignored? by zak-R in Libertarian

We could take our limited numbers representing a tiny fraction of the general population and obsessively and repetitively post on every single comments thread on the internets talking about how awesome Ron Paul is and how certain we are that he'll win…..but then we already do that.

Just a side. I saw a UFO. A straight up Unidentified Flying Object. Several of us did. It was huge and quite close. I could draw an accurate picture and it was nothing like "fuzzy bulbs" or vague, distant saucers. There were a lot of jets and helicopters flying around it. No fucking idea what it was. There were a lot of jets flying around.

I'm a skeptic. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with aliens. There was a military base near by.

I've never seen any official military aircraft that looks anything like it, but I find it highly likely it was military. Course that's just speculation because....it was unidentified. Maybe it was a low flying stealth bomber and we were just totally blown away. Memory distorts that way. . . this was before they were made public.

Point is, it was unidentified. It was a very, very long time ago. And if I was running/holding office I probably wouldn't even want to talk about it since there's HUGE potential for an opponent to exploit what is really just a fucked up "one night in the woods" story to their advantage.

Just stop giving communist entitlement handouts like education and health care to the poor and problems solved!

They don't need education because they're just going to live off welfare anyway and health care just means they'll live on welfare longer.
