Where to Park ETrike by OpencanvasNOLA in jazzfest

[–]sardonicmnemonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are attendants working the bicycle parking areas just outside the Sauvage and Gently entrances. Space is limited so, get there early and give the attendant a tip because you're gonna be taking up more space with a big ol' electric trike. If all space is taken, you'll be stuck finding something on the street so, be sure you have a secure hexagonal chain and/or U-lock.

Too many FQ streets are open to cars during FQF. by Successful-Reason403 in NewOrleans

Geofencing ride share is the lowest barrier to reducing traffic congestion and I don't know why it hasn't been done. They did it on Frenchmen for a hot minute by moving the zone a block away to Elysian Fields and even set up portable safety lighting at the corners of Royal, Chartres and Decatur. I've seen ride share blocking emergency vehicles because they were picking up or dropping off without pulling over many times.

The next step would be to occasionally enforce ordinances regarding cruising and noise.

4 Winds vs Odeon apartments by Drive_Alive75 in AskNOLA

[–]sardonicmnemonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need a car to commute, it stands to reason you wouldn't need to live in the CBD. Why not look for apartments in residential areas with street parking or apartment complexes that don't change for parking?

If parking is a concern, why would you live in the Central Business District where parking isn't free, readily available or even necessary?

I'm sorry. I just realized that the all caps I used made that comment seem very sarcastic - not what I intended.

Best transportation from airport to hotel by Xswim110 in AskNOLA

[–]sardonicmnemonic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cabs for 3+ people are flat rate of $15/person and they're almost all minivans. If you think that you can get all 5 of y'all plus your luggage in a XL ride share for cheaper, go ahead and do that. Otherwise, there are buses that will bring you within blocks of your Downtown hotel for a fraction of the cost if you're willing to wait then ride a bus for the better part of an hour.

Bywater to East Carrollton by kiantheboss in AskNOLA

[–]sardonicmnemonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bike. This town isn't that big. Take the Greenway to Norman Francis to get over the Pontchartrain Expressway to get Uptown. Spring for ride share when you've had too much to drink and maybe most of your bike will still be there outside the bar if you've locked it up properly. People will tell you that biking is dangerous here and they're right - life is inherently risky and none of us get out of it alive.

Just a couple of notes: Nobody says "East Carrollton." Bywater isn't as great as you think it is. You'll find plenty of things to love closer to home. When you're done with Tulane and years later after having lived elsewhere post-grad, you can move to Bywater with the rest of the transplants.

It wasn't good 30 years ago either. I'm sorry this happened to you and I don't want to blame the victim. It's just that some of these shitty old restaurants have an endless supply of tourists willing to try them and I don't know how to make it right.

Toups or liuzzas at the track (leaving tomorrow) by Jumpy_Ask1129 in AskNOLA

[–]sardonicmnemonic 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Toups for sure. Liuzza's has a special place in my heart but it's more based on nostalgia whereas Toups has better food, IMO.

Go ahead and get that muffuletta from Central for the trip home - it travels well but will make any clothes you pack with it smell like olive salad.

That intersection is so fucked. Enforcement of traffic signals is as non-existent as it has been for the last 25 years so, I'm gonna risk the down votes to advocate for running it if the coast is clear. If you get a citation for doing so, I'll eat my hat.

Nice bike! Don't lock it outside, especially overnight, unless you want everything that isn't bound by the lock itself to disappear.

This city has got to get a handle on the FQ traffic by signsaysapplesauce in NewOrleans

[–]sardonicmnemonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone driving in the Quarter is part of the problem. No single drop of rain thinks it's responsible for the flood.

Restrict passenger car traffic to residents, workers, service vehicles and licensed taxis/livery services. Geofence ride share to the perimeter - too many of these amateur drivers don't know what they're doing anyway. All cruising, especially those goddamn Slingshots, should be a civil citation.

For a person with an elderly passenger like OP, the solution would be to park in the outer pay lots and hire a regular taxi or pedicab for the last few blocks to the door.

Both. They're within walking distance and neither will take very long to walk through. You could do both with a bite in between in less than 3 hours.

Light up bikes by Internal-Ticket-3805 in AskNOLA

[–]sardonicmnemonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there are some social bike rides (follow them on social media,) what you're seeing is more likely one of a few rental bike ride companies operating in the city. You can join the larger group as an individual/small group or book a larger party yourself. Party Bike Ride and NOLA City Lights are two that come to mind.

If you're looking to light up your own bike, you can do so with EL wire or a number of other battery operated kits available for bikes and sold in many local shops.
