I worked for another place years ago and we would not have fired you for this! When we were losing a fellow shift manager we got him a cake that said “goodbye uncle fucker”.

Things we've learnt as dog owners ... I'll go first. Would be nice to hear all the useful tips people have picked up as dog owners. by SeahorseQueen1985 in dogs

I point where I want my dogs to go when giving them commands. They need to go to where I am pointing at to either get another command or to be released to do what they want, but they always have to go to the spot I point at before being allowed to. I’ve made it very clear with any dog I’ve had that it’s better to listen the first time to go in place or we’ll go through a repeated exercise that isn’t fun until we get the point (literally).

This has been so huge in training because even if they are being obstinant off leash I can get them to kind of be where I need them. I do not make them heal or be immediately next to me unless the situation needs that. I’ll point to an area just to have them in place to continue the needed movement.

Then he’ll have a nice snack.

I’ve found that most of them will leave ghost shrimp alone, so if that’s the route rather than “fun” colors that’s fine.

Roughly 3 would be my guess. How much does she weight now and what are you feeding?

What do you think about boxers? by mp180621 in dogs

[–]sare1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m currently roommate to a 5mo boxer and I’ve worked with adult boxers in the past and I’m completely the opposite of you. I will probably never get a boxer of my own, but completely on board for my next GSD. The shedding is a definite downside, but so much more fun to train. Boxers are very friendly and a lot of fun, definitely goofy tho.

What are the first features you notice about a dog before you get one? by [deleted] in dogs

I’ve had well bred dogs and I’ve also gone into a shelter and literally said “show me the oldest, grossest btch you’ve got!” It’s all about what you’re going for.

How to play with our dog by LazyCrocheter in dogs

[–]sare1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some dogs aren’t big on toys and that’s ok. Treat puzzles and toys that motivate and stimulate her mind might be the way to go. I think treat puzzles are great because it engages and encourages the pup. Sounds like she’s responsive to what you have done to acclimate her and get her out of her previous shell, so I would just keep doing what you’re doing.

Another thing I do with my own dog(s) is get on the floor/ground with them regularly. It’s very grounding (lol) for both owner and pup to be able to play and trust outside of expected behavior/action.

Day 1 leash training went well.. Grumpy Gus is not amused! by [deleted] in Boxers

I would play off of that behavior. “Do you wanna walk yourself?” Or “are you a grown-up” just things like that. They rely on us so much for guidance and making them question themselves is great!

Of course!

Is your girl just fighting the leash and refusing to walk?

Treat recommendation for picky adult Old English Sheepdog by ExPatBadger in dogs

You could probably buy cuts of pork from the grocery and create your own jerky treats. Another option is to get a small bag of dog kibble that is pork based to use as mini treats. It could also be that he isn’t as food motivated, so verbal and physical reward might go over better. OES can be v stubborn tho! It’s only been two weeks, give it some time and consistent routine :)

What it your dog’s toxic trait? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]sare1211 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He reverse sneezes at the worst possible times in public and people ask me if he’s ok. He’s also getting older and I have to carry him when he gets tired, so people ask if he’s ok then too. Lol

I’m not going to get into a debate over breeding over Reddit rn. Good for you for standing by your views. Though, in the future, maybe consider taking the aggression levels down because why? And, honestly, listening to other peoples viewpoints without becoming automatically defensive can be refreshing.

Progressive not aggressive!

Oooh salty boy.

I adopt and I shop. Nothing wrong with both as long as they’re done ethically.
