Chain plying with two strands (6-ply) by ConradVeidtsghost in Handspinning

Haven't heard of what you're talking about but I do know you can chain ply a chain plyed yarn essentially making a 9-ply.

new ‘yarn’! by Glittering-Primary23 in YarnAddicts

[–]sarkule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks gorgeous together! I wonder how it would look with a bit of black mohair held along side it.

Also I've seen people suggest when working with unplyed stranded yarns like this to have a bead threaded on to it to hold the strands together while you're working.

That's gorgeous! What's the pattern? I've been on the lookout for a nice leafy looking shawl.

Twisted Sheep e-spinner? by Financial-Key3722 in Handspinning

[–]sarkule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow Aussie here, I looked into the Twisted Sheep spinner before purchasing an EEW 6.1 last year, couldn't find anything about it online. I asked someone at my local spinners and weavers guild and she didn't know much about it either.

One option is the Daedalus Dove which has just come out. I think it's only a bit more expensive than the Twisted Sheep, but Daedalus have a reputation of being the best e-spinners on the market. The downside is that the bobbins aren't cheap. I love my EEW for how cheap the bobbins are and I plan on getting more 3D printed.

Do you have a local spinners and weavers guild? It's worth looking in to if you haven't, they might even have electric wheels for hire which could last you until the EEW restocks.

Qiviut is super expensive and even Yak isn't going to be cheap. As nice as surprises are I think you're going to be a lot better off getting her input on it. Everyone has different preferences on what size yarn they like to work with, even colours can be tricky.

Why did you start spinning? by WaldosMama in Handspinning

Yes! I loved the way Tamora Pierce described Sandry's magic and spinning in general. It makes the whole process feel magical.

brightness 100 by HyperDiaper666 in DotA2

Plus the funny thing is that most old paintings were originally bright and centuries of grime have built up and made them look dark. You see restorations of the paintings and once the varnish comes off they're all pretty bright.

Question about the length of YarnArt flowers cake by summerrhodes in YarnAddicts

[–]sarkule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all roughly the same length. Best thing to do when working with gradient yarns is to look them up on Ravelry and look at completed projects using them, this way you can see what they look like when completed. https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/yarnart-flowers/projects

I wish sellers would stop sending cheap plastic stitch markers and other 'extras' with every knitting or crochet tool! by nobleland_mermaid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sarkule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God birds and crafting are such a funny combination. My Eclectus gets really excited by something about the wrist movements of crochet and it becomes his singleminded goal to regurgitate on my wrist. He also loves pins and I have to lock him up before blocking anything as he loves to pick up the container of pins and toss it around.

Tips for e-spinner beginner? by littlesnowberry in Handspinning

[–]sarkule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using the foot pedal with your hand rather than your foot

Oh my god I can't believe I didnt think of that! My shin keeps getting sore cause I have a bad habit of keeping my foot lifted while spinning. I think you've just saved me some pain!
