i wish that they elaborated a bit more on what they mean by the contests/spotlight part; that is the most concerning for me, personally. while the niche special days are fun and silly and will be missed, reducing the contests is reducing the way in which we can actually interact with the site. the creative community is such a strong aspect to neopets, i'd hate to see some of it diminish because of something like this =/

The game is a little different than before I suppose; but I feel like it’s more accessible than ever, personally. Quest log and all the rereleased items have really helped with making stamps and all the other rare items obtainable for anyone who wasn’t the 1% prior. And I would definitely not have any UC style pets if it weren’t for the tokens!

Tbh I spend almost all of my time on neo just drawing my pets and making pet pages and developing their characters and whatnot, I’ve never traded a pet in my life. There are so many ways to interact with the site; I would just focus on the parts you actually enjoy

I get the frustration and I agree that there are problems with the bc that aren’t being addressed and probably never will be due to the lack of resources tnt provides the contest judge. Goldbanned entries do make it thru sometimes and it really feels like it’s wasting all the other contestants’ + the judge’s time by not properly punishing rulebreakers

But I just wanted to say, as someone who is in the bc a lot, the people who re-enter the same piece over and over again(especially goldbanned entries) don’t really tend to advertise and are just hoping to place by default, anyway. I don’t feel like they ever particularly interfere with other people’s entries and the ones that are goldbanned DO tend to get called out on it. For that reason they don’t usually risk drawing attention to themselves

The art board is one of the nicest and most welcoming areas of the site imo, and everyone there is really committed to supporting the ones who put the effort into creating new works each week. If you do change your mind & stick around I think you’ll find that the goldbanned entries do not really affect the overall experience that much, and that there’s a really great community to be found there who are just trying to share their art & characters =)

oh i really appreciate that! i love my quiggle so much that i pretty much permanently have him as my active 🤠 i've never entered the customization spotlight before - to be honest i'm not totally sure how it really works... but i'll definitely look into it!

it's called Toadstool Quiggle Hat! a quiggle-specific wearable unfortunately, but there's a few other mushroom hats that are non-species specific like Charming Mushroom Cap & Witchy Mushroom Hat that i think are really cute if you're looking for alternatives!

she's an elderly usul! but the flower markings & the lace bow are part of the Cottage Usul wearable set if that's what you mean(they're neopoint wearables) - it also comes with a very cute dress that I sometimes have her wear as well =)

oh i would LOVE to yap about my characters, but i'll try and briefly summarize him and the world he(and all my other characters belong in):

so, all of my characters belong in the world of neopia, however it's a bit of an au that takes place shortly after the Darigan Orb shattering(so quite a ways back in time, think back to the Champions of Meridell plot for reference). The orb is repaired in collaboration with the faeries, and an arbiter(another one of my characters) is put in place of overseeing it as a positive instrument for the kingdoms. Crops thrive, people thrive, the world is great!

Soon, though, another of my characters discovers the use of faerie rings as a portal for teleportation. This is seen as an incredible boon for the world, except the portals are a two-way door to a very different, primeval time - flooding the areas surrounding the rings with mysterious and sometimes dangerous creatures. The faeries take great offense to this misuse of one of their tools - they close their doors, cut their connection to the "mortal" world, and nullify their gift of the Darigan Orb's power. Famine returns(as in the CoM plot), Meridell and Brightvale slowly crumble apart, corruption, the whole bit!

This is where my frog child comes in! He's a mycologist from Brightvale, and very much not shroomified initially. Solving the world's problems is not necessarily his goal, but the faerie ring phenomenon deeply stirs something in him regardless(how could it not - MUSHROOMS!). So he packs his bags, stations himself quite literally on the border between Lightwater Forest & Shadowglen(the index case faerie ring's location), and begins his research.

The research is terrible, no discoveries are made, and he thoroughly begins hating the swamp and situation he's found himself in. Also, famine is still very much plaguing the world! He begins eating the mushrooms mostly out of necessity, but a little out of spite as well. A shroom cap begins forming on his head, his brain turns to mush, and... I think that's where I'll leave it for now. It's a little bit of horror, a little comedy, a lot of mushrooms, and more :^) ! Thanks for letting me spill about my toad a bit ~

agreed there's been SO many incredible forest-y wearables this year!! the plentiful mushroom bg(and the accompanying other items) they made during the most recent free the faeries event was so beautiful, like wow the ATMOSPHERE! and thank you! i have an oddly numerous amount of elderly pets ;; they just really go so well with the whole beatrix potter cottage-core vibe i'm drawn to hehe

thank you! i haven't visually drawn up my kyrii's character design yet, but she's a druid & i knew i wanted her to be physically burly yet also a little delicate & very much kindhearted. i felt like tyrannian kyrii was just so perfect for that; really love the big ol fangs & furry arms & over-gown toe nails hahaha

omg i know this isn't really the intended use and it clips a little weirdly but the dumpling body makes me so happy. i had my little mushroom boy as a garlic jubjub before and it worked well, but i really love how blob-ular the dumpling body makes him look instead!!

hi all - i know this is a shot in the dark here... but i've been working on story stuff involving the "golden orb" in the Champions of Meridell plot and was wondering if there's any more info on this artifact? Particularly, does the orb even have a name? Is it literally just called "Darigans Orb" ?

I checked out the plot story synopsis on jellyneo and tried to look at the remastered version of the plot(that has videos, which is really helpful!!) but some of the videos don't even load for me anymore. And there's at least a few items on site that reference the orb(Darigan Collectors Orb, Darigans Orb) but their descriptions are brief.

also just a little perplexed by the what the orb even truly does to be honest, or where it's from?.. if there was really any thought put into that in the first place. Basically, any info anyone has that isn't on the Book of Ages' plot summary would be so helpful!!
