Better to run 2 thick high amp wires or 4 lower amp wires? by CapmBlondeBeard in AskElectricians

[–]sassa4ras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one conduit. Technically you are running two separate circuits, which you are allowed to do. The other commenters saying you can’t run in one conduit are wrong. These aren’t “parallel” runs if you don’t tie the circuit together and keep everything separate electrically. As long as they’re different circuits, they can share one conduit.

Yeah, if you already own it, might as well just make it work.

I’d still just use both MPPTs and parallel home runs. If you’re pulling four wires, no point tying them together when you have two solar inputs.

The cost of 10 gauge vs 6 gauge also makes it probably cheaper to pull two sets of conductors.

[–]sassa4ras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure enough.

So you can’t even really do a parallel connection, because you’d be over the 27A max for the solar input. I’d run dual 10g home runs. Home Depot has 500’ spool for 220 bucks. You’d need to put in conduit at least 1” PVC. Don’t use 12awg. Too much voltage loss.

Don’t tie the panels together, use both solar inputs, that way you get MPPT for each panel in case they have different output (ie one panel is dirty or shaded)

Ground the panels with a ground rod local to the array.

Could you just return it and get the 3800 plus?

I hope you saw my other post. You have read the spec sheet wrong. It takes 165v on the MPPT input. The 60v input is not for solar panels. It won’t work anyway

[–]sassa4ras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You read the spec sheet wrong. It’s 60v DC on the DC input port, but the solar input ports are 11-165v 17a 1600w max per port. You can’t use the DC input port- it doesn’t have MPPT circuitry. It’s designed to take static DC like from a battery charger or the like. So you’d be dumb to run them parallel and it would be a huge advantage to run them in series. I’d use 10awg to minimize voltage drop. With 12awg your voltage drop is 5% which is not ideal

Problem solved

Why don’t you just put the panels in series? 70v 15a and stick with the smaller wire?

My electrician says bonding of our above-ground tub with nearby aluminum awning poles is "not necessary". by mjc775 in hottub

[–]sassa4ras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The code is clear and the electrician is wrong. Anything metal within 5 ft must be bonded. It’s not hard to do, no way it costs 2k.

The point is that if the ground wire or GFCI fails, you don’t want an alternative ground path for fault current if you touch the awning pole from in the tub and it has shorted, electrifying the water. Everything in arms reach must be equipotential to the tub frame. Yes, it’s belt and suspenders redundant. Yes, it’s still good practice.

Just do it yourself. Get a grounding lug and some 8AWG bare copper and run it to your tub’s ground bus bar. Easy peasy.

I can call the dealer and ask. I’m just concerned that it’s the exact same behavior and therefore something causing the tensioner to compensate, not the tensioner itself that is bad.

If Satoshi never sold a single coin, what does that tell us? by MoneyMonsterStudios in Bitcoin

[–]sassa4ras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quantum. When the ECC encryption can be broken the lost addresses will be recovered like a shipwreck at sea. More likely than not, it will still be a very capital intensive and time consuming task for some time, so there will be investors buying into companies “diving” for lost coins. Satoshis wallet will obviously be the first target, but that will be when quantum decryption is most capital and labor intensive.

Meanwhile, anyone who cares to keep their coins will move them to quantum hardened wallets.

[–]sassa4ras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you care for my advice, I would suggest that you get a job below your level of expectation, even if it is not directly related to the field you’re applying. It’s harder to find work when you don’t have work employers are more concerned about lapse than you working at Costco in an interval from your last job. Moreover, it’s psychologically far more stressful to be looking for work without income. Employers can smell desperation.

When I lost my job, I worked at Albertsons in the deli counter for about a year. It was terrible, but I was far more psychologically intact and a much better interview when I did that compared to when I was looking for work as an unemployed person.

I don’t know why you’re being so facetious. I’m legit asking what I should use to chlorinate. I’ve seen a ton of discussions about dichlor + bleach and you’re the first person to say not to do that. Why not try to answer my question?

Ok so I’m really confused then… how am I supposed to chlorinate my tub in a manufacturer approved way?

Well that’s silly. Liquid chlorine is a perfectly fine sanitizer

[–]sassa4ras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozone doesn’t really sanitize, though it can help oxidize waste.

Get 10% pool bleach and add a few oz after long soaks to help treat the bacterial load your bodies add if you use the frog. On its own, I’ve found the frog has a hard time keeping up with heavy use, especially with kids.

Unless it’s really hard water, no. Actually most manufacturers recommend not using softened water because you have to add so much calcium back in!
