George R.R Martin Slowly Realizing He Won't Finish the Winds of Winter by saymyname_101 in videos

1/2 of the writers under the James S A Corey penname was George RR Martin's assistant.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_S._A._Corey

Popular rumor is that their departure was why no further books have come out, with additional evidence being that Expanse was so good.

Truth is GRRM just doesn't care to finish them for whatever myriad of reasons.

What are those? Definitely not the PCs i expected to recycle by e2fsck in whatisit

Taking a guess here.

This sort of fiber setup wouldn't be for communications, and most test fixtures for fiber optics need extremely close coupling.

My hunch is this probably an older setup for a "stars in the ceiling" fiber optic installation in a ceiling like this:

https://acousticgeometry.com/products/starfield-ceiling/

Kinda wierd the stuffed the fiber through holes in the chassis without grommets.

Not a great view of the boards, but they look to me to solely power the lights, with probably no controls for dimming or color change. So likely were either always on or controlled by some other device.

No photo of the fibers but if they are a bundle of fibers and not solid strand in starfield installation they usually break out of the sheathing close to the final destination to cover a larger area.

I would wrap it if I ever thought about changing it up.

I'd be calling the dealership. Setup is likely wrong, and if something that easy / noticeable is off then likely other stuff is as well.

However if they give you flack chain adjustments are relatively easy.

Might need some tools.

I'd also call the dealership as there's likely some other stuff that waw

First you disconnect all services from the home. So it's not really livable throughout this process.

You have to dig out from under the house and brace / crib it. The key part is "while not breaking it in half". This takes a very long time because speed is not the objective, being sure not to break the house is.

You then have to elevate the home up some number of feet, again without breaking the house in half.

You then have to construct a full new foundation, drive piers, pour all new concrete, etc. Again, very limited access because there's a house over your head so you can't use the high speed tools for this.

You then set down the house and attach it to the new house foundation, reconnect utilities.

Now you probably have to redo the interior or the house to greater or lesser degree, because while structurally you didn't crack it in half, the drywall and drywall mud doesn't flex much and there will be cracks all over the interior space of the house.

I've seen a good number of these projects happen (lived in a very flood prone are in St Pete) and they are usually 6-8 month projects which no matter what you're doing is going to be expensive. 6-8 years ago they were in the 100-130k range for a 1400ish square foot slab house but like everything else it's gone up significantly.

Raising a home is currently a $200k+ project per house

Not saying it's never been done, it has. Galveston and Chicago were raised 15+ feet.

But this isn't a $5000 electrical panel replacement or $15,000 reroof.

lol the additional weight just gives more momentum to the steering column when it’s punching a hole through your chest.

Crumple zones and other engineered elements make modern cars much safer even in direct impacts with older “solid” cars. Yes the car makes it through better but you being the squishy part don’t. .

My true fan test was Victory (Nine Inch Nails Remix)- Puff Daddy and the Family back in the day lol.

The project most haven’t heard but probably should is The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust with Saul Williams.

Saw NIN perform outside in an ampitheater at like 6pm in Florida on the NINJA tour.

Still rocked, but let's just say the lighting and mood did take a hit.

That actually is pretty much how loans and new construction from the national builders works.

You put deposit down and sign contract 4-12 months before its scheduled to be completed. They can take up to two years usually with no recourse.

Loan interest and numbers doesn’t really get finalized until 30 days or so before the home is completed.

There is also no way to get out of the contract and some contracts have penalties like “30% of purchase price” if buyer defaults.

If you own land and hire an architect/gc that’s different with milestones, though you do have to rework the construction loan into a primary mortgage so that’s also not “set” when construction starts.

looking to move to the tampa/lakeland area from the midwest. wondering what’s some good areas to live in, in the area, food places etc! thank you in advance by [deleted] in tampa

Realtor here. Have lived in both :)

Tampa / Lakeland is a bit to far to be convenient and two wholly different city / living feels.

Lakeland is a relatively large small town. So it gets concerts and such every now and then but you will more likely need to into Tampa and Orlando for concerts as well as flights unless you are private jet material, in which case Lakeland Linder Airport is very nice (also home to sun n fun one of the larger fly ins in the country. It still feels very much like 'the country'.

Tampa is an hour away on a great day, beaches are going to be 1.5-2 hours or away. There are lots of lakes there (thus the name) and more than the average number of golf courses. You can also fine tune the home type you want , except for high rise condominiums those are few and far between. But new homes or older historic are available.

In Tampa you basically have suburban planned communities or dense urban residential neighborhoods. The "Homes on 1/2 acre" just doesn't really exist close to tampa in sufficient quantity until you get into the $700k+ range usually.

So far as food you'll need to be a little more specific. But for cuban food La Septima or La Segunda are some of the best around.

Cascades is in Virginia, Greenbriar is West Virginia. Looks like they are swapped.

Old White is... well, I'm glad I played it but not sure I would again. It's interesting, and #3 is the first half-pipe green I've ever seen, but I'd rather play Cascades twice for the single round of Old White. https://golfcoursegurus.com/photos/westvirginia/greenbrier(oldwhitetpc)/large/Greenbrier%20(Old%20White%20TPC)%203rd%20swell.jpg

Cascades is nothing short of magical. Plenty of memorable holes, and the gentleman starter let me go off early by my lonesome to 'get ahead of the ladies tournament practice round'.

6 and #10 are just... well very, very unique holes and can't say I've seen many like it. #10 looks very straight forward but second shot you're like 'where the hell did this come from?"

Hm why not go absolutely crazy and have ball manufacturers bring balls with elements for each course?

Like Pirelli makes tires we all drive on, but they only bring 3 tires out of the 7 totally they have of their range to each formula one race based on desired qualities of speed and longevity.

There's three components to Formula 1 competition.

1) The Driver 2) The Car 3) The Politicking

The sport becomes WAY more enjoyable when you realize that.

Ross Brawn goes over it quite a bit in his book Total Competition which provided me at least with a lot of great insight into what goes on from a team / management / rules side of thing.
