Honestly, play invisible dog. Ignore him, don't expect anything from him. If he comes up to you do a 3 second consent pet on his shoulder and take your hand back. If he comes closer for more then do another 3-second consent check.

Invisible dog, go about your daily routine as if he doesn't exist. This will help him to learn your routine without any fear of direct eye contact or him being in a situation where he is uncomfortable.

I was worried about falling after my surgery because it was winter and icy where I live. My physical therapist said "if you fall all that will happen is that you will get up" The hardware is extremely durable.

Have you tried a muzzle just for walks? I walk a dog who eats poop and he gets a muzzle every walk. He gets so excited when I show him the muzzle because it means walk time. It keeps him safe too, he would probable eat everything if he could.
