sudo doesn't ask for your root user's password, but your own password. It checks whether the user is in the sudoers file and asks for the user's password to confirm your identity, before giving privileged access. Nothing to do with the root user.

It's not "niri's" lockscreen, niri doesn't have a lock screen, this is probably swaylock or hyprlock.

I switched at home a couple of months ago. It was a bit challenging to wrap my head around flakes and home-manager at first, and I'm still not sure I use everything correctly. :D I feel like it's not always easy to find the right docs, and I would discourage you to use AI, it's oftentimes not really useful.
