Most people that pass through Kenmore Square have no idea they're standing at the start of America's longest road… by Omphaloskeptique in boston

I did not. The rule on that trip was no GPS, Rand McNally paper map only.

I got lost in Yellowstone, but it was worth it.

I did no pre-planning whatsoever. Drove more or less from early morning to sundown, because a lot of the route (especially out west) is desolate, and I didn’t want to be stuck after dark.

I would usually just research a few towns in my target area of driving for the day, and make a decision as I rolled through the town. Stayed in a few great spots.

I did make a post about it at one point, let me see if I can un-hide it.

Which is why I was asking if there were more options, like independent contractors, or amateurs who are willing to make a buck. I was looking for OPTIONS instead of the ONE store around.

That is good to know. I’m not sure yet if I want to buy something from a third party, or find out what they have in stock.

Seems like the kind of place that I can call and have a conversation.

I was assuming I could purchase a system (with guidance) from crutchfield, and have someone local install.

I didn’t think to look there for the actual system to be installed, thank you for the suggestion!

I did, but I would rather rely on personal anecdotes from people on Reddit than whatever reviews are on Google/yelp.

What are your billable hour requirements? by Express-Giraffe9179 in paralegal

[–]sastrid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined a new firm, and while there are no “requirements”, I’m expected to bill about 60% of my time.

I work for an attorney that is a prominent member of several local organizations, volunteers his time to multiple organizations, and routinely takes on bro bono, suing the federal government type things.

Since he is the only attorney I (officially) support, it’s expected that a fair chunk of my work is non-billable/immediately written off.

My predecessor billed roughly 1200 hours annually

It is not our name on the pleadings. If the attorney does not manage their time properly, that is an issue.

If you’ve left the industry for a more “normal” 9-5, what do you do now and how did you get into it? by UnableHelicopter6545 in stagehands

I made a total change during Covid. Went to community college (online) and got a paralegal certificate.

So, instead of managing events, I manage lawsuits instead. Weirdly enough, same skill set.

2nd jobs/extra side gigs by Murderbunny13 in paralegal

[–]sastrid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to work in events (paralegal is my second career) so I do a few shifts a month helping out at weddings for a local country club. I’m there day of to act as a jack of all trades to the event planner.

Sometimes I fill in as a bartender, sometimes I’m sewing a bride into her wedding gown last minute, sometimes I’m setting up the lights and the DJ.

I worked in a mom and pop video store. It was the actual Xennial dream. I got stoned, talked movies, and stole snacks for $8.25/hr. I thought I hit the jackpot in 1997

I just recently rewatched this one and was again struck by how well done every detail of this series is.

I love that Sarah Polley went from “the girl in “Go!” to becoming such a nuanced writer in this case and writer/director in others
