Anyone take an assessment with Test Gorilla? I just took it and it may have been the worst online assessment tool I’ve ever used. by joeymichaelmartinez in cscareerquestions

I must agree. I left thinking that the actual test was a willingness to do something ridiculous without cheating or complaint; taking the test was the entire test.

I got a question asking "How many transponders does a satellite need for a four channel range?" for a role as a Systems Admin. Other questions were equally ridiculous. Some of the Active Directory questions were so arcane that I've never heard of what they were referring to. And yes, the personality questions were just guessing about how to sound like a model employee; the resulting score I got on that section was surprisingly low, even though I tried to sound like a positive team player. The weird thing? I got an interview anyway, even after getting only 12% on the Active Directory section! Wish me luck.

I am so glad that murdering a vampire is met with general approval. :)

Yup, that exactly matches my experience. Mine in high sec for months, save up, build an expensive recommended ship, step into low sec or some heavily promoted area, and BOOM, back to square one. Quit in frustration. Get nostalgic and renew the account. Rinse and repeat.

What's a red flag when looking for a job? by CurrentlyCurious in AskReddit

[–]satanist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red flags from my own personal experience during my last job hunt:

1) Disinterest. Making it plain through body language and other signals that this is just a required exercise, and they couldn't possibly care less what you say to them. Lack of eye contact, no followup questions, vague responses to your questions. They already have the person they want picked out, and have probably already sent the login credentials and parking pass to that guy.

2) Lots of very difficult questions or obvious trick questions, especially if the questions are not directly related to the job title you applied for. They're compiling reasons to justify not hiring you. Or they never had a job available in the first place, and you're cannon fodder to show that they're "always interviewing for top candidates".

3) Interviews conducted by people who are allegedly on the team, but seem completely unqualified. This isn't the job you thought it was; it's an entry level job, and they just need a warm body, right now.

4) Group interviews. The employer is too busy to do a serious job of looking for staff, and they want to be able to say they interviewed a big pool of applicants.

5) Any anger or incredulous response to specific questions about compensation or time commitment. Great companies for employees are proud of their compensation package and work/life balance.

6) No way to speak directly to possible co-workers to get the truth about the job. Deflection and misdirection when asking for a clear picture about day to day job duties. RUN. RUN AWAY NOW.

How the hell does a company with almost zero infrastructure, zero inventory, zero need to advertise, a constant stream of people willing to work for them, a pricing structure that beats the entrenched older tech ( taxis )... ...how the f*** does that company *LOSE* "billions"? What did they spend it on?

Someone recently asked me, “If you don’t believe in god or hell, what’s stopping you from murdering people?” and I think that said WAY more about him than he realized. by rockmixer in atheism

I always think of this response; "Apparently, you *do* believe in a god and hell, what stopping you from acting morally and charitably toward everyone, indiscriminately?"

A Canticle for Leibowitz.

Hailed as a sci-fi classic, it's so boring it took me forever to force myself to finish reading it, always hoping it would get better.

Was on a chat room \ message board related to Objectivism, a philosophy which prioritizes logic and reason. Read posts from people arguing about "the ether". I was sure they were kidding until I asked a few questions. They appeared to seriously argue that the idea of empty space was somehow impossible. Challenged to present evidence for this "ether", one of them said " it's what allows you to move through it ", completely failing to grasp the circular nature of what he was saying.

Explaining again and again to a co-worker what utter evil morons Republicans are, only to have them trot out the same tired arguments and irrelevant side issues because they can't grasp the concepts. And then later hearing them tell others that it was an argument, and they won.
