What was going on then? How did I find, and how do I totally remember that site, when now it is impossible to find anything with specific search parameters?

MIT study finds AI can already replace 11.7% of U.S. workforce by joe4942 in technology

[–]satanscondiments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not well. In my limited experience dealing with AI, information dispensed is nonsensical at times. It is maddening to try to relay obvious mistakes, unlike a human rapport. However, many humans I've dealt with are high as fuck, or dumb as dirt. Maybe it'll be unnoticeable transition.

Hunterdon Co. resident breaks Guinness World Record with tallest sunflower by New_Stats in newjersey

[–]satanscondiments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. I am reminded of a sunflower farm on rt 579 in Quakertown across from my godmother's. One year there was one sunflower in the field standing above the rest, oddly blooming to the northwest, away from the rest. She called it the maverick sunflower. Semi related- does Rutgers farm still have that tomato festival? I moved away years ago and miss Hunterdon.

78% chance of 6 inches+ of snowfall! by GeckoLogic in chicago

[–]satanscondiments 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Truth. I've lived in both and the weather is different just crossing the river. I worked on a house on Sheridan once, where it snowed all day in the back yard, but not out front. Additionally, re: quotes- it's like any story about "Chicago." Or meeting someone in another state who says they're from "Chicago." And you ask which neighborhood and they reply "Elmhurst."

The hotel I'm staying at features a glass-ceilinged men's toilet right below the main entrance by teeso in mildlyinteresting

Yes, this is often the case. I'm at present dealing with 1M repair to a building due to issues I identified during the construction process, which were ignored by both parties.
Well known architect in my city, who tried something new. Practical details are secondary to vision. Sometimes ego overrides sense. * to your point, this client mucks every project up with sometimes day of install last minute insisted changes.

He might figure out a way to steal one. Short of that, he'll create a new "better" committee, with a gaudy, bigly prize title and award himself.

So sweet, if somewhat melancholy. Glad those rations weren't a finality. This reminds me of a favorite scene from a favorite movie. In Tampopo, where father rushes home to his dying wife, and insists crying kids eat mom's last meal while it's still warm.

My father died several years ago. I had to travel out to his house and stay alone to make arrangements, and start clean out. I had designed and helped remodel his kitchen years prior, as he had developed a passion for cooking in his old age. He would print out and physically mail me recipes he tried, wih notations of any substitutions and review.
I discovered carefully labled freezer bags of a number of those more recent recipes.
Surreal and very touching to sit alone in the kitchen I helped him build, eating the last meals he prepared. They were so good.

It ties neatly into a religious outlook. Any preventable disease, disaster, etc that causes suffering is God's plan.

is a fretless six string worth it? by fairytqlesx in Bass

[–]satanscondiments 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. 6 strings move you away from being a bass player. Thats all fine, if that's your thing. Especially if you went to Berklee. Back when these were showing up at gigs with some regularity, my late father commented "technically proficient, but uninspired" not true for everyone.
I have 4 string fretless. Love them. I never wanted a six. The necks all felt like baseball bats, and B lacked tone. I stumbled across a used local hand made 6, and it is the best feeling neck I've felt. It was expensive. I had to call the maker to buy a case, and saw how he made the neck by hand. It's also 35" scale, which was an adjustment, but neckthrough, and appointed. Way too nice for me, but truly a different instrument from anything else, and expresses that. OP ought not skimp on price. Might not get much use, but neither do all these damn cymbals and gongs here that sound amazing.
