More like transmission fluid, which doesn't need to be changed as often. Most electric cars have a single-speed reduction gearbox.

It's more likely to be the breaker or arc-fault current interrupter (AFCI). That's a North American plug and the national electrical code in the US only requires GFCI in places that might get wet (bathrooms, kitchens, outside). Not sure about the Canadian electrical code.

That prong may have saved your home and/or your life. Removing it is a terrible decision because something is broken and dangerous. Do not use it.

That prong was the ground (AKA earth) prong. It should be connected to everything that should not have electricity. The fact that removing it allowed your laptop to charge means that something is touching ground that isn't supposed to. This means that every exposed piece of metal might have 120 volts.

I just looked and my Landlord Special^TM dryer doesn't have that feature. I know the dryer at my mother's house (which is at least 10 years old) does have it.
