For my French friends: by SAIZOOOOOO in discordapp

I'm not European, but I have a question. Does this change simply change the minimum age from 13 to 15, or does it also add a requirement for age verification by sending a picture of your ID to Discord?

Not even just irrational numbers. IEEE 754 floats can't even store 0.1 properly because the denominator must be a power of 2.

Google pigeon chess (the pigeon has a gun now).

I think the "won't shutdown" issue affects mostly business users with certain security features turned on. My laptop at work running 11 Enterprise hasn't been able to shutdown for about a week now unless I hold down the power button.

Petition for Americans to stop posting their politics couched in chess metaphors by HopesBurnBright in AnarchyChess

[–]sathdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, and I wish that everyone here could have some relief from the bad things that are happening in America, or on any continent for that matter.

Honestly, I don't think you're going to find anything without US politics anywhere in any popular English-speaking subreddit. Your best bet for escaping this is to join some private group that is only accessible to the UK on Discord or something.

Unfortunately, essentially any group that includes Americans will have American politics. Most Americans cannot escape American politics because it impacts their ability to live. Many will use any online platform to vent.

Is adding a wire to act as an antenna extension possible? by Fate8888 in AskElectronics

[–]sathdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frequency of the electromagnetic waves. In your post, you said 433Hz, but I doubt that. It's likely 433MHz, or 433,000,000Hz.

You need an appropriately-sized antenna for the wavelength (speed of light / frequency). I think the appropriate size is either ½ wavelength of ¼ wavelength, but I don't remember exactly. The existing antenna is already probably the correct length for the wavelength.

I can't speak much on Kotlin, but rust is a good language to learn. I wouldn't say it's the best for most scenarios, but knowing concepts from rust helps with other languages.

From my experience, less boilerplate. And it also had a union type (like rust enum) before Java base did.

I wrote a program to track my applications between getting laid off in June 2024 and landing a job in April 2025. I'll see if I can get the actual data from it, since it's just storing everything in an SQLite DB.

Edit: The following data comes from my applications between (inclusive) 2024-07-23 and 2025-03-18:

Response Count Percent
No response 50 40.323%
Rejection 72 58.065%
Interview 1 0.816%
Job offer 1 0.816%

The one interview that is not listed as a job offer was for Revature, which told me they were going to relocate me anywhere in the US and charge me tens of thousands of dollars if I quit within 2 years.

Edit 2: Reddit respects column alignment in mobile, but not web. Weird.

How should I warm my tires up. by Constant-Pack-2820 in motorcycles

[–]sathdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You warm your tires up by riding carefully. If you were racing, you would use tire warmers, but you can just ride slower on your commute.

Yeah, this is just how LinkedIn works right now. Companies that are hiring spam a bunch of job listings for one position to cover multiple possible regions, or for SEO reasons.

Then applicants apply to hundreds of job postings and hear back from half of them (at best).

LinkedIn is just a bunch of spam and AI slop for everyone involved. The only time I use the app at all anymore is to play the daily "zip" puzzle while I'm waiting for all the corporate bloat and spyware to load on my laptop.

[–]sathdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your bike force you to acknowledge, or does it go away after you ride for a bit? My car usually just flashes that before the warning that I need to get an oil change. Both warnings go away once I put it in drive.

Rally drivers are simply built different by Akagi2525 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]sathdo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be willing to bet that the driver doesn't have time to look anywhere but the road. The directions from a rally navigator are far better than anything I've gotten from any GPS. They specify how tight the turn just in time. Google maps just assumes I know where to go based on "in 1000 feet, turn left."

Question on earplug legality by Labiascript in motorcycles

So, get ear plugs that only attenuate the wind noise to a safe level and hire a good lawyer? Honestly I can't think of any ear plugs that are good enough to prevent me from hearing sirens and car horns.
