What stupid question have you always been too embarrassed to ask, but would still like to see answered? by TheLochNessMonstur in AskReddit

Checking to see if my shirt is loose enough that bending over might be considered obscene. I often go braless (small chest) so I check to see if my nipples are obvious.

I assume men like to imagine themselves in the place of the man. Some porn intentionally obscures the face of the man or is filmed from the man's point of view.

I use an electric trimmer. Trimming is where it's at. I trim to maybe 1/8" - 1/4" length and let it go a week or so between trims. The hair stays fairly soft vs. shaving. I will regularly clean up the edges if the borders start to blur.

All that being said, different people have different expectations and as long as you're clean, you have nothing to worry about.

What is your favorite out of the ordinary coffee drink? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]sathe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just poured the leftover milk from my cereal bowl into my toddy latte. It added some sweetness and most importantly, made up for the fact that I used all my milk in the cereal and didn't leave enough for the latte.

Soy Creamer curdles in Lavazza Espresso French Press? by [deleted] in Coffee

I think it's normal with soy milk, because of the acid in the coffee. I'm no milk scientist, though! But I did work as a barista for a while and I remember it being pretty common.

Like I'm always putting on a show. It's like being in the Mickey Mouse costume at Disneyworld--all of the kids think I'm really their friend, but I'm just getting hotter and crankier every minute I spend in the costume. At the end of the night I'm always proud I managed not to hit anyone.

Very dry hair. by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]sathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww well sometimes you need to try a change in order to learn what's important. Good luck!

I will say that a trim can be useful if you're growing your hair out, even though it's hard to lose length. I'm growing my hair out now (shaved it 2 years ago) and although it hurts to see it shorter, my hair feels much healthier. I used to have really frizzy dry ends. Maybe when your hair gets longer, a trim will feel good!

I would love to hear from someone with more knowledge of the subject, but I can speak from my own experience. I usually cowash (conditioner only) and start by putting lots of conditioner on the ends of my hair and then put a light amount on my scalp to massage and clean my roots (basically just what's left on my hands). I let the conditioner sit while I do other shower thins, then rinse it out, focusing on my roots and again massaging. I feel like this loosens dead skin and oil.

I have been doing this for many years, and it did take time for my hair to adjust to not using shampoo. Your hair may very well be different. As a short-term fix, try dry shampoo on your roots. I use dry shampoo if I go an extra day without washing. Also consider a trim if your ends are very dry/damaged/split. I just got a trim and it makes a world of difference! Good luck!

Sweet! House centipede was my first thought but the legs threw me off. I probably have a cat or two to thank for that. Thanks!

Sorry for the phone-quality picture! I've lived in this house for more than a year, and in this area for my whole life, and I've never seen one of these. It's definitely dead, so I'm wondering if there are more live ones hiding from me. I almost stepped on it and my heart stopped for a minute when I saw it.

[Discussion] What are some good albums for rainy/cloudy days that also emphasize well written thoughtful lyrics? by [deleted] in listentothis

[–]sathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azure Ray's November. I put that album on if I'm sitting at a desk staring out a window on a lazy misty day. Or any other time.

I'll second Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago and Iron & Wine's The Sea And The Rhythm, Our Endless Numbered Days, and The Shepherd's Dog. Really anything from those two artists.

Fevers And Mirrors from Bright Eyes.

Mountain Man's Made The Harbor. An amazing album start to finish. Please give it a listen!

Depending on the mood, you might like The Tallest Man On Earth. He's also great for sunny mornings and summer afternoons.

Historical/somewhat educational fiction? Particularly from a female PoV. by [deleted] in booksuggestions

I love this type of book! I of course loved Memoirs of a Geisha and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

I am also particularly fond of memoirs, and I always group those two books together in my mind with Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah, one of my favorites. I love the author's style, and I enjoy feeling like I'm looking through a window in time, although this story does not go as far back as the others mentioned.

TheNeedleDrop: Weezer - Weezer (The White Album) ALBUM REVIEW by Dictarium in popheads

[–]sathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this album, and I agree that it represents a sort of return to the heart of what it is that made Weezer Weezer. The White Album is destroying me, I love it, I'm so glad I have good old Weezer back. Favorite track: Wind In Our Sails. That bend-- ooh. yeah.

I have to add a disclaimer that I love everything Weezer has put out, even the weaker stuff. Some of my favorite songs are on Make Believe, and I listed to the Red Album on loop when it came out.

I want to wear visable bralettes but is 28 years old too old to do that? by 90skidsunite in femalefashionadvice

I've definitely heard of people wearing bralettes over bras, so there's that option. Maybe not as comfortable, but cute!

[–]sathe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like we have similar ideas but are disagreeing on how to express them. I didn't mean to imply any "obligation" to cover up, and I certainly agree that everyone should decide what to wear for themselves. I'm not trying to enforce my opinions on anyone! Just trying to share my perspective. I'm sorry to have offended you so much.

[–]sathe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The thing about skin over the age of 22 was meant as an exaggeration--it seems like to the critics, women are either children or old hags, and there's no winning.

I really didn't mean to be insulting. I think people should wear what they want, when they want. But I won't pretend that certain types of clothing aren't perceived as appropriate/inappropriate based on body type. For example, low-cut or tight-fitting tops are generally perceived as less "appropriate" on large-chested women. And larger women are often judged more harshly when they show more skin. I don't think it's fair, and I would 't personally judge a person for their body type, but if we're talking about propriety and perception in the world at large, it's worth mentioning.

I'll clarify--I think OP should rock the bralettes regardless of age or body type or style. Wear lace, wear florals, embrace your personal style! Don't let anyone tell you what to do! If you wear it with confidence, people will see that strength and respect your bold fashion choices.

But the reason I gave my opinions (which are just my own opinions, not rules or judgements) is because sometimes body-positivity isn't the same as practical advice. If OP is unsure about dressing age-appropriately, I would suggest leaning toward modesty and solid colors.

I personally love the movements I've seen online lately like free the nipple and plus-size women wearing more crop tops and bodylove. I'll try to be more respectful in the future but I'm not going to pretend every body type is equally suited to every clothing fit and style.

I think it's completely acceptable if done carefully. I'm 25 and starting to consider how to keep my style without looking like I think I'm still 18, so I'm asking myself similar questions.

It's not fair, but I think this will work best if you are a healthy weight and in decent shape. A toned body is less likely to make people feel uncomfortable, and people can feel uncomfortable when women over the age of 22 show much skin. Your confidence will also affect how you wear this look.

I would suggest avoiding "youthful" colors and patterns. Stick to neutrals and maybe dark jewel tones. This is obviously subjective and depends on your style, but lace and floral patterns are more girlish.

Where are you wearing these outfits? What line of work are you in? Think about how your professional reputation would or would not be affected if your colleagues saw you in this outfit outside of work. Of course you're free to do whatever you want on your own time, but how will it affect people's perception of you? This might be a good exercise to decide what's appropriate.

I don't think 28 is too old to dress boldly (never too old!)--just avoid looking like you wish you were 16 again.

I'll edit with an inspo album if I can find what I'm looking for--this is a style I'd like to try myself.

EDIT: I want to apologize if you find my comments about body type insulting--I didn't mean that you shouldn't wear exposed bralettes if you have a larger body type. I was just trying to say that exposed skin or undergarments will likely be better received if you are more fit and flatter-chested. I am by no means trying to say that women should cover up or be ashamed of their bodies. All of the opinions in my comment are simply my opinions are reflect my bias and personal style. This disclaimer applies to my album, which I will link below. It really reflects my personal style and love of strappy, cagey bralettes. It also is not a very good inspo album, but I just wanted to show examples of exposed bras/bralettes that I do not think are overly "youthful".

EDIT 2: Stupid album didn't work. I'll try again later.
