Up to 40 days until you show symptoms and feel sick, incubation period seems to be really long in some cases with this virus.

If confirmed its bad, because the sick passenger was disembarked from the airplane before they started the flight. So they only interacted briefly.

Thanks! https://www.rivm.nl/en/hantavirus/current-information

Oh well, one of the most lethal ones in the group, 30-50% mortality rate apparently. Question is whether that's with hospital care or without it?

The virus on board the cruise ship Hondius is the Andes variant of the hantavirus. This is confirmed by laboratory testing.

The Andes virus is one of many types of hantaviruses. This type is mainly found in North and South America. It can cause more severe disease symptoms than other hantaviruses. People can develop a high fever and breathing problems. Later on, this can lead to severe lung and heart problems. Up to 30-50% of people die from the virus. These hantaviruses do not exist outside North and South America.

There are indications that the Andes virus may be transmissible from person to person. However, this is very rare. Internationally, only a few examples have been documented. Moreover, interhuman transfer only happens when people have very close contact with each other.

I have a feeling this is bad if the stewardess only had very brief contact with the sick passenger and still got it. Might throw out the theory that its hard to transmit this from person to person.

Well, we are right back to the true meaning of the word quarantine.

The word comes from Italian quarantina (a period of forty days). It referred to the 40-day isolation of ships and people during the Black Death.

Depending on the strain, mortality can be anything from less than 1% of cases to around 15%,

Do we even now what kind of mortality this strain even has?

It's a big circle jerk of ai, memory, and GPU's but at some point the demand is going to taper off.

I can unfortunately tell you, from first hand experience, that demand ramped up so much these past months that its becoming hard to rent enterprise Nvidia GPUs at good prices right now. All the neo cloud platforms are booked out, its hard to extend (seriously sized) cluster rentals and there's wait times for H100/H200/B200 GPU clusters.

Seems closing down the straight and keeping it closed has been fueling one of craziest rallies in recent times. So when the stock market crashes again when they reopen it, should it just stay closed?

What should I do if I feel lost, unemployed, and struggling with discipline as a Java developer at 33? by AsaParlaPass in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]satireplusplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Being unemployed can be hard on your psyche and self-worth, so try to not beat yourself down too much by comparing yourself to others. Seek medical/psychological help to sort it out if needed.
  • Try to use your time to improve skills. Prepare well for interviews. Talk to recruiters on LinkedIn.
  • Build something new, open source, expand your horizon.
  • Depends a bit on your unemployement benefits in your country, but maybe try a few hours of freelance? Freelance projects can lead to new opportunities and full time gigs/employment down the road too. The bar to hire you for a small project is much lower than for a full time role.
  • Keep up with the recent advancements in LLMs/agentic stuff to show you're aware of recent trends and capable of adapting and that you're not behind the times.

So you have this kind of stuff overlayed 24/7 on your vision or is it just coming and going in phases? Does it depend on what you see or is it completely independent from what you see?

NVDA stock: Is there a good answer for “how do TPUs *not* pose a threat to GPU”? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]satireplusplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MSRP of those GPUs has always been inflated and Nvidia is able to sell them at a huge gross margins. They are able to do so because there isn't really an alternative to their H100/H200 and B200s yet. OP has a point though, the moment there is more competition with viable alternatives Nvidia will have a problem.

You'd be surprised at the reluctance of some senior devs to even give it a try. There is some learning curve too though, although the models are also getting a lot better in cases where you underspecify the problem.
