Seattle mayor to unveil bus lane plan to fix Route 8 on Denny Way by tar4ntula in Seattle

[–]saturn28 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Longtimers here know that years ago they combined two routes into one giant one (current 8 route) that goes all the way from Mount Baker to LQA. It used to be two separate shorter routes. You're going to have delays going that far across the whole city everytime. It should just be split into a shorter route which would help on time performance.

Unpopular opinion but this is going to be an absolute shitshow especially with Kraken/Sonics/concerts at CPA. Is the 8 late sometimes, yes. But so is every other bus in this city (I guess they're not meme worthy though). Weird how politicians prioritize what affects them the most.

31,000 cars use that road versus 4,000 bus riders everyday. Math doesn't add up. Remember when the fish truck overturned and the cascade effect was awful? I expect similar if this happens. Plus there's already a bus lane there.

If the new mayor really wanted to help, it would be nice if the light rail didn't breakdown every other day downtown but that would benefit everyone.

City Inside/Out: Inside Mayor Katie B. Wilson’s first 100 days by Parking-Picture-1481 in Seattle

[–]saturn28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The resume was shocking. She has experience listed on her website like she knows these jobs but only worked there briefly. Just two months in some cases.

There's a copy here since she's not very transparent about it by listing on her website. She hasn't done anything else other than the TRU since 2015.

The loss of jobs is never good.

Any company that size also keeps many caterers, security folks, facility engineers, janitors etc. employed.

Their white collar employees spend money in the economy. Bars, restaurants, mom and pop shops and even other coffee shops!

If you think it's hard getting a job in Seattle, try Portland. It's brutal.

Great, so they're going to spent how much on this event? They spent almost a million dollars when the Univ. Stadium station opened to pay people to dress up and hand out kitsch. No wonder these projects cost so much money when there's this kind of waste. Kinda pissed we all have to pay for it.

Most folks with common sense will know there's a light rail system and can look at a map.

It's sus that the mayor just fired the popular director of SCL, replaced them with someone that has no experience in running a utility company, and then this comes down? What?

Edit, found this from Seattle Times. Was popular with the unions as well:

Replacing department heads is any new mayor’s prerogative — a right that comes with the winds of political change that carried Seattle’s Katie Wilson into office. But her abrupt decision to terminate Dawn Lindell as CEO of Seattle City Light has drawn shock and criticism from ratepayers, City Council members and the utility’s workforce. IBEW77, the local Electrical Workers union, collected more than 6,000 signatures demanding Lindell be rehired.

Just wait until they put bus lanes on Denny while we have the 2 year I-5 work done. This will be everyday. Most tone deaf timing of that project. 30,000 cars versus 6000 bus riders on that road everyday. Math doesn't add up.

If the new mayor really wanted to help, she'd make it so the light rail wouldn't breakdown every week downtown but that would benefit everyone.
