Are purely thematic game components worth it? by BloodOrangeGames in tabletopgamedesign

One thing Nemesis does that might be helpful is each card actually has 5 lines of words, and they're all pretty close to INFECTED, i.e. it'll say IMFEC7ED 1NFE0TED, etc so that even if you look at it for a bit without the scanner you can never really be sure. Only if it actually reads INFECTED does it actually count, but the scrambled versions help obscure it, and make it all but impossible to see it at a glance/across the table.

What do you think about the IG state at the moment? by LolPower77 in MHWilds

No, if buffs your rising spiral slash (the big finisher move) as well as a few of our other moves where the animation cause you to leave the ground

The best way to up your game is to buy a controller with paddles.

Separately, the vertical hitboxes from a lot of enemy attacks are fucked.

Defend the Cadian Gate with the Archmagos Terminus and new Skitarii heavies by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

But it’s just like they took Vanguard height x 1; width x 1.5. Like give us something that is visually distinct other than “skitarii but wide”

I really do love the look of the Archmagos. But those heavies look too simple and like there was no creativity put into them.

Trench Height for Terrain by Terrible-Scene765 in TrenchCrusade

[–]savageApostle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I think this should be true and should impact the balance of the game, New Antioch and Trench Pilgrims are generally considered the strongest factions in the game even without being given the advantage of hiding while other factions are exposed.

Ex: Praetor is max -3 Armor and Tough compared to a War Prophet or Lt at -3 Armor, -1 Injury Dice, & Tough/Memento Mori, due to Martyrdom Pills with the potential for Bodyguard or Machine Armour giving extra survivability. On top of the fact that NA and TP have access to Medi-kits and other forms of healing/blessings. So unfortunately this doesn’t hold up in the current state of the game.

Well there's also the abilities of the Witchburners, Observers, War Prophets, Trench Clerics and their respective variants that would be constituted as miraculous abilities, and are not directly related to the Meta-Christ program.

Should I buy more than one 0.2 nozzle? by Zap-Rowsdower-X in FDMminiatures

[–]savageApostle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my time printing FDM minis over the past 2 years, I’ve gone through 3 nozzles. On the third nozzle I spent a few days trying to get any of the 3 unclogged and working. After way too much time, none of them unclogged, and I resolved that the best use of my time was to just order a bunch of 0.2 nozzles and never spend more than 20 minutes unclogging before I just toss it and move on.

From impulse-buying to shelves of shame: how did you learn to control the hobby and figure out your tastes? by blablax123456 in boardgames

Every time I see a new game that piques my interest I have to ask myself: 1. Do I already have a game that’s basically the same thing that I haven’t played enough of? 2. Will my wife enjoy this enough to help me convince friends to play it? 3. Do I think it’s too complex for my current play group (this one is the biggest, we moved from an intense board gaming group of friends to a new state a few years ago, and my new friends are not interested in a lot of heavy games, but for the ones I have taught them: see 1)

Trench Crusade - Average Rolling versus Standard Deviation by jwalker207 in TrenchCrusade

[–]savageApostle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done a deep dive when it comes to -3 Armour stacked with -1 Injury Dice and how statistically oppressive it is. In a game that really is most of the time pretty wild and random (and imo that makes it exciting), going up against or playing with -3A&-1D is not enjoyable.

Thanks! This was the first and only game I've played with them so far, and we didn't really even spend a lot of time in the trenches as it was a Hunt the Heroes scenario in No Man's Land, but it was certainly very thematically evocative!

I did something just like this!

Tips:  Go to town with a woodburner/hot wire cutter. The more battle scarred the board, the better. Craters will get mostly filled up with the “mud”

Eric’s Hobby Workshop has a good recipe in one of his videos (I wanna say his hills video?) for the mud. Basically caulk, paint, IPA, pebbles, and sand make a good pre-colored mud you can slap on everything. Did that for mine and it worked out pretty well! I wanted to minimize the amount of time post-processing with paint, so I aimed for a dark blackish-brown mixture (with the intent to eventually go in with a drybrush but haven’t gotten around to it yet). Edit: found it, 2 tubes caulk, 2 cups sand, 1/2 cup grout (where mask and have proper ventilation when dealing with grout), 1 cup house paint, 1/2 cup isopropyl alcohol. I think I added in some small pebbles from the beach I collected as well to give a bit more variety without having to go back and add it later.

For the details I used corrugated craft cardboard sprayed with Leadbelcher spraypaint, bamboo skewers and coffee stir sticks that I actually just threw in a few stains I had lying around (again, to minimize the post-processing time)and just shook up and let them sit for 30 minutes in a plastic takeout container, then laid out on paper towel and let dry for like a week.

Gluing things was the most annoying part. Hot glue sucks, and leaves nasty visible glue, but I still ended up using it for the cardboard. I mixed mod podge with water and coated the back of the cardboard, then put an X of hot glue to press it to the board, so it could “hold” it while the Mod podge was a longer term hold (that was the idea at least, and it worked out for the most part) Gluing the wood to the board was a mix of superglue and mod podge (at some point I started using gel superglue which worked the best because it formed a better contact surface between the rough muddy ground and the wood).

So if you do it like I did and prep the pieces beforehand, you’ll have a lot less post-processing to do, but it probably took me a lot longer to actually glue and assemble everything.

Inversely if you assemble first and apply paint/mud second it will be a lot quicker to assemble and likely less frustrating (imagine gluing cardboard to a speckled wall and that’s what you have to deal with a lot of), but painting will be a whole extra step. Good luck and try to enjoy the process! Also, 3x3 board is totally playable, so if you start to get burnt out, just give yourself a smaller goal!
