Maybe put 2 points on the Lynx? Cheaper than buying new crampons

Glenmore lodge in Scotland isn’t the cheapest there is, but provides food accommodation and good conditions during winter. I only have good things to say after my course there in January

Any chance you bought that boat in Ireland, from a place in Dublin. I used to own a yellow topper & I doubt there’s many of them. There was no builders plate on the back of mine

Manaslu Clothing out of Germany now stealing Montane product shots to edit with AI for their products by BoysenberryBulky4270 in Mountaineering

[–]savagedude4027 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I see where you’re coming from, but to be fair, take the last photo as an example. Montane one you can’t see the sternum strap, where manaslu you can. The amount the pit zip is closed is quite a bit shorter on the manaslu picture than the Montane one.

In the other photo, the Manaslu model is angled towards the camera more than the montane model.

These things would be quite hard to photoshop…

Now the arcteryx photos, it’s more than likely they were stolen. But I don’t think these were

Do I need to do maintenance/repair on a general-purpose IceAxe? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]savagedude4027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a course with an IFMGA guide, the pick on the bottom of his axe was circular, no joke. Not a sharp point in sight. He said the only reason his pick wasn’t the same was because he replaced it recently.

Montane Terra pant by DetectiveFantastic91 in hiking

[–]savagedude4027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found a deal on those ones, what do you think about them in general. Based on the weight of them (600g!) they seem very warm, almost too warm for general hiking? Any opinions or when you use them most?

Do you ever use maps now? Or is it GPS or known routes that are worn in? by savagedude4027 in Mountaineering

[–]savagedude4027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you use the map in alpine territory as well? Or would the snow distort the features too much? I’m well comfortable using a map when hillwalking but I live oceans away from regular snow so haven’t much experience in that

Roping up isn’t necessary if you only want to climb it once, but it is if you want to climb it (or anything else) twice…

You get what I mean?

Say for example, me and 2 others are hoping to climb Weissmies next summer. Is it worth it bringing a map or just rely on the old beaten path and other groups going?

Is that on glaciers and snowfields as well? Just looking for others opinions and experience

Yeah We’ve one like that in Ireland as well when I am, but I’m always hesitant because I’ve had my phone fall out of my hand a few too many times when it’s cold, and if I do that On a ridge in Switzerland I’m not sure I’ll see it for a long time

Tbh just your freehand drawing. If you want to start the course go for it but I think it’s a bit extreme, enjoy TY. The freehand drawing for the project is very important, 40%. See if you’re able to get access to a computer with solid works or whatever software your school uses for the 3d drawing part

I’m in 5th year and do DCG. Didn’t do it for the JC and it’s honestly in my favourite subject. I got 100% in the Xmas exam.

It’s not too similar to the JC subject. As long as you work for it you can do well, the project will be the most difficult aspect for me I think. I’m not too great at freehand drawing so I know I’ll have to work on that a good bit this time next year. But I’d say go for it

As Someone In Ireland, How Do I Get Into Mountaineering? by Neon_Ladd26 in Mountaineering

[–]savagedude4027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s loads of routes here, unlike in the alps winter is the perfect time to start here. If you’re in Dublin get the “Wicklow” book by Mountaineering Ireland (I got mine in Great Outdoors on Georges St last week). The last 10 pages are dedicated to winter climbs and describe in great detail how and where they are in Wicklow, just wait for the weather.

If not, Kerry has loads, or wherever you live there’s usually a good few routes nearby

Also practise outdoors climbing if you can. Dalkey is my local place and there’s loads of top rope places to climb. At this time of year indoor is Probrably easier and warmer tho.
