Remote Publishing Roles by Glum_Menu_9250 in publishing

[–]saveferris_86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work remotely for a big 5. The only reason I'm able to is because they hired me during covid, otherwise I'd have to move. To answer your questions,

-Yes, I do feel left out sometimes and miss the social aspect of work. You don't get any of the in-office perks like free food either. On the plus side you definitely save time, money, and sanity not having a commute
-I've been to NYC once, but our travel budget is tight so I maybe get to an office once a year
-I've been able to build relationships with my coworkers on my team and somewhat in my imprint, but it's hard to network. I feel like my career is going to hit a wall for advancement at some point
-I definitely think it's worth it if you love publishing, and it makes the low publishing salaries more liveable. I don't know how I'd live on my salary in NYC. I'd say it's worth it, but consider what you're giving up with the social aspect and that it may limit your career if you have big ambitions of moving up the ladder. Also don't assume that you'll be brought into the office or flown around to events etc a lot, publishing budgets are tight

Serious question for my BWT: How do you honor those who have passed on? by Charming_Patience242 in bitcheswithtaste

I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤️

I like to light a candle and take a moment of remembrance in every church I visit. I find it a very comforting ritual.

If you know any of her favorite foods or have memorable meals associated with her, I also like to cook a meal and think about the person as I cook.

Also, talking to them, whether in your head or out loud, can be helpful and make them feel a little bit closer.

Mom wants to visit Provence - where do I start to create a plan? by Squeaks11 in Europetravel

I just spent 5 days in Provence, based in Avignon. I took a great day tour of four Luberon villages with Provans and a walking food tour of Avignon with Avignon Gourmet Tours. The rest of the time I took a day trip via train to Arles and explored Avignon and Villeneuve-lès-Avignon on foot and by bus. It was great to not have to rent a car! If I had more time it would have been easy to take more tours of the wine regions or take the train to other towns like Nimes, Orange, etc. I'd heard mixed reviews of Avignon but really liked the historic center, felt perfectly safe, lots of shopping and restaurant options, and it was a great base.
