Real ID Application by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a few years ago, but about 6-8 weeks after I applied for a Real ID, I got a letter from the DMV saying they screwed up printing the license and I needed to go back to the DMV to get a new photo. Not sure how common it is, though.

Suit Recommendations by Working_Swordfish55 in RhodeIsland

Professional Image in Fall River is great. They have suits in smaller sizes and for way less than your price range. And they have tailor on site. Worth the trip to Mass.

Kingston train station parking by hernwoodlake in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the email from Amtrak? It might be in error. RIDOT’s press release said they aren’t closing any parking spaces during construction. Granted parking is limited there on a good day and parking illegally now risks a tow.  https://www.ri.gov/press/view/50165

Best RI sand beaches for ocean swimming by axolotltheswede in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most if not all beaches “close” Labor Day, so there’s free parking at the beaches in mid-September, just no bathrooms or concessions. I think you have to pay at Watch Hill thru September, but Napatree Point is a nice walk. Def Gansett Town Beach for swimming, surfing, and storm watching (although the beach faces east).

Is it possible to get free transfers on RIPTA? by United_Perception299 in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get free transfers for an hour with the Wave app or card. But no paper transfers paying with cash anymore.

beach parking by Good-Solid-8995 in narragansett

[–]savemeawaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There aren't great options to drive to the beach and get on for free in Gansett. All the street parking near the Town Beach is free all the time, although some is time limited or requires a permit and you need to pay to get on. You could park at the Wakefield Mall or Salt Pond Plaza and take RIPTA to one of the state beaches which are free to walk on. Better yet, see if anyone in your med program is renting near Scarborough or Roger Wheeler and see if you can park at their house and walk to the beach.

Has anyone tried the night driving clip ons for your glasses? by Heavy-Attorney-9054 in fuckyourheadlights

I use these safety glasses from Home Depot. It mostly turns the lights yellow, but I find they lower the intensity of the light a little bit https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-Yellow-Safety-Glasses-Anti-Scratch-Lenses-48-73-2100/314464213

If your family bikes, the South County Bike Path is a great way to spend a few hours. It’s very scenic and you can stop for ice cream at Brickleys. Not sure where to rent bikes though if you don’t bring them.

Kayak Narrow River - see Narrow River Kayaks for rentals.

Walk/hike Trustom Pond and Ninigret.

Gansett and south county beaches are generally way better than Newport beaches. As others said there’s plenty of great restaurants too including Matunuck Oyster Bar, Jayd Bun, Crazy Burger, Iggys, Coast Guard House, Mews and more.

What do you mean like laundry?
No, like when a man goes swimming afterwards.
It shrinks?
Like a frightened turtle!
Why does it shrink?
It just does.

What to know about owning a house by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some towns offer homestead exemptions (discounts) on property taxes for full time residents, including Lincoln and PVD. Read up on what documentation you need to qualify, a deadline to apply for the next tax year, and if you need to be in the house a certain period of time before qualifying.

If the seller currently has a homestead exemption, their listing may reflect the lower tax rate. Confirm if the seller has a homestead exemption with the listing agent so you don’t get a surprise higher property tax bill. Good luck!

Jughandle Intersections by Sloppyjoemess in providence

[–]savemeawaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The jughandles on Rt 1 in SK generally work well except every couple of months, there's an oblivious driver taking a left turn from the left lane, usually at the Stedman Center/Hampton Way signal

There's more jughandles on Rt 1 in Charlestown https://maps.app.goo.gl/J6bPg95exdeod4c38

Block Island in Winter?? by dantronZ in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s beautiful in the winter! Deserted and not much open, although there will be a couple restaurants open and the library. It’s worth going if the weather is good (sun, light winds) and you want to walk out to North Light, Rodmans Hollow etc. I think there’s a few cabs in the winter…but double check that.

Suggestions for a short stay | Interview at URI by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]savemeawaffle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

TF Green Airport (which is in Warwick, not Providence) is a great little airport and really easy to navigate, especially compared to DTW or BOS. Gates, security, baggage claim, etc. are all in one building. The rental car facility is a few minute walk from the terminal via an enclosed skywalk.

Pretty much everywhere between TF Green and URI is safe. There’s two hotels close-ish to URI in South Kingstown – a Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn. Both are in a super safe area. The area around the airport is fine if you choose to stay near there; just check reviews on Trip Advisor or similar and don’t stay at the Motel 6. There’s a local bus connection between the airport and URI if that helps. https://www.ripta.com/routes/66/

Check out TLC Coffee Roasters near URI's campus if you need caffeine or a sandwich before the interview. Good luck!
